Clint Eastwood’s critical, box office and Academy Awards juggernaut tells the tale of Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper), a prolific, er, American sniper, and his endeavours on and off the battlefield during the Iraq war. It’s a heavily lethargic adaptation of a heavily controversial book about a heavily divisive ‘American Hero’. Not to say that the flick itself is wildly patriotic – though the ending tries its best to disprove that – but nor is it an anti-war film, as director Eastwood haplessly attempts to argue. Which is where American Sniper’s greatest fault, among many faults, lies; it’s a film that is too afraid to carry any political heft, any commentary that would make the viewing experience worthwhile. As a result, the whole point of the film is rendered null.…
Isaiah Bradley's character in "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" serves as a symbol of the historical and ongoing racial injustices faced by African Americans, particularly those who served in the American military during the world war. His experiences as an African American super soldier show us the systemic racism and marginalization that black soldiers have endured both during and after their service, with no recognition, respect, or rights. Bradley's experience shows the harsh reality of America's ongoing struggle with racial equality and the deep scars left by historical injustices. This parallel to real historical events in America regarding the black soldiers during World War II, emphasizes the importance of understanding Isaiah's perspective and the reasons behind his actions, beliefs, and not wanting…

The juxtaposition of Dr. Faustus and Roy Hobbs shows similarities and differences in their characteristics. Dr. Faustus, from the novel Dr. Faustus, and Roy Hobbs, from the movie The Natural, both have divine powers that their cultures see as heroic. Both Faustus and Hobbs yearn to be the best there ever was in their field of excellence; For Hobbs it’s baseball and for Faustus it’s learning. With all the similarities come the differences. In 1280 A.D., King Edward "Longshanks" (Patrick McGoohan) of England, has occupied much of southern Scotland, and his oppressive rule there leads to the deaths of William Wallace (Mel Gibson)'s father and brother. Years later, after Wallace has been raised abroad by his uncle (Brian Cox), the Scots continue to live under the iron fist of Longshanks' cruel laws. Wallace returns, intent on living as a farmer and avoiding involvement in the ongoing "troubles". Wallace seeks out and courts Murron, and the two marry in secret to avoid the decree of primae noctis the King has set forth. When an English soldier tries to rape Murron, Wallace fights off several soldiers and the two attempt to flee, but the village sheriff captures Murron and publicly executes her by slitting her throat, proclaiming "an assault on the King's soldiers is the same as an assault on the King himself." In retribution, Wallace and several villagers slaughter the English garrison, executing the sheriff in the same manner that he executed Murron.…
Man, it's hot! Temperature that exceeds one hundred degrees Fahrenheit is the only thing one finds at the Mexico, U.S. border while waiting to cross it. Yes, the United States and Mexico share a border, but they have other similarities, such as the kind of government, similar shopping facilities and wonderful vacationing locations. Differences also come into play when one has two different countries; these differences are people and government, which lead to other differences.…
To Kill a Mockingbird is a classic novel that most people have read at least once. It is one of the most beloved novels of all time, and most can agree that has withstood the test of time. However, with the release of Go Set a Watchman many readers were forced to reevaluate what they had originally thought of the beloved classic. Go Set a Watchmen was under no circumstances released as a prequel to To Kill a Mockingbird and the differences between the two novels perfectly demonstrate this. Unfortunately, this does not change the fact that readers still view the characters of Go Set a Watchman as the grown version of the exact same characters present in To Kill a Mockingbird.…
James Buchanan Barnes died when he fell from that train in the mountains; not in the literal sense, but very much in the figurative. He’d been molded into the Winter Soldier, the perfect assassin, by Hydra. But Bucky? He was still very much alive, trapped in his new Winter Soldier body, watching as this new him kills and hurts and demolishes. He doesn’t know what he would call himself- a ghost, maybe, a spirit. A soul? This goes on for seventy years, until one Tony Stark comes along and completely fucks up the life he’s trapped in. He watched the man struggle and hurt, seen him at his best and at his worst and somewhere along the way, Bucky fell in love with the self-made genius.…

Iron Man/Tony Stark is by many considered as a central figure in the Avengers universe. He was created by Stan Lee, Don Heck, and Jack Kirby and was firstly introduced to the public in Tales of Suspense #39 in 1963 as a mixture of Howard Hughes and famous inventors such as Tesla, Bell, and Edison. He was a representative of modern innovative technology in the times of the Cold War and the Communist Threat. He could also be compared, as far as mythology is concerned, with gifted craftsmen, smiths, and inventors (i.e. Daedalus, the Greek god Hephaestus and the Celtic god Lugh).…
When Loki fell quite literally through the roof of Stark Tower ; unconscious, bloody, and bruised beyond recognition - Tony had to help. No one deserved that kind of treatment, and he wouldn't wish what Loki had been through on even his worst enemy, not even Stane. So he had helped him, watched as Loki recovered. And when the truth of his madness came to light (the years of torture, the betrayal he had suffered), the Avengers were brought in, and Loki found a new home.…
Likewise, the directors have constructed Batman as the great sacrificial hero, the one who sacrifices not only his life, but his respect and praise from the people for the wellbeing of Gotham. In fact, a lot of the time the directors use a low angle to depict Batman as someone greater than life. However, Harvey is seen as the opposite of Batman, the realistic hero who represents legitimate hope. Harvey is referred to as, “the hero that Gotham deserves” and “a hero with a face.” This quote in particular, reinforces the motif of faces and masks because Harvey is the other side of the coin and unlike batman, his face is…
