Captain Galleon Epilogue
Streams of desperate tears spill off a woman who runs to one of the children. She grabs him, holds him, kisses him. A soldier comes, wrestles the child away from her breaking heart. Queen Mother leads the children out to the open over dead leaves and pine needles. The sun bakes through the shadows of the trees. She looks up, sees a pirate ship flying in. Everyone in the village sees the sailing galleon, mouths wide in wonder. But it soon turns to horror at finding dragons sitting nearby on their hunches, smoke churning from their nostrils, eyes flashing fearsome grit. “Captain Barrabus wants to know if you want him to get the cannons ready?” asks Red Cloud. “Tell him to stand by.” says the Queen. She turns to the children. Wrinkling up her nose, she takes a sharp breath, “The boy is here somewhere. I can smell him.” …show more content…
Okay?” They nod, go to the side near several crumbling logs. “Can you sing louder than the boys?” “Yes.” they say in unison, “We can beat them. We’re better than they are.” Their smiles testify to the Queen’s clever ways. “Excellent.” she hugs them gently, smiling wide. “I know you will do well.” She walks to the clearing between several weathered trees, “Follow me, boys.” They bounce along, eager to prove themselves better than the girls. The Queen gathers them, coloring her voice with candy, “Now listen carefully, my beautiful children.” Their eyes sparkle, looking in anticipation, “Are you going to let the girls beat you?” “No.” they all say. “Perfect.” She’s speaking loud for all to hear, “I’m sure you have learned the old folk song ‘River in the Wind.” The boys and girls jump around, “Yeah.” “Mom sings it to me for bedtime.” one

Queen Elizabeth I implements diction in her speech to her people. Elizabeth begins her speech with the words, "My loving people." By saying these three simple words, she brings the hearts and souls of her people to one level. Elizabeth instills the idea that she and the people are equal, almost as if though she says "My loving people," they are not peons of her society. Elizabeth I also tells her people that she knows she has "the body of a but a weak and feeble woman" when trying to draw them together as a single, strong force. By saying this, the queen makes publicly known the handicaps she faces when dealing with an entire kingdom. By saying this she also informs her people of the determination she has, not only to win this battle against Spain, but to win the battle that she has to face in relation to her conflicting places in society. Queen Elizabeth I had the ability to use her words to provoke a response as opposed to brute strength and violence.…

The narrator, Amanda Coyne, begins her essay from the mother’s perspective. She describes herself visiting her sister in Federal Prison Camp with her nephew. The story is focused on the relationship of separated children and their imprisoned mothers. The narrator describes the mother’s unusual response to their children in regards to the smell of the flowers bouquet. The way that mothers were referring to the smell so significant gives a visualization of a deep longing and separation in their hearts. The common use of anecdotes and juxtaposition in this writing stands out as a useful tool to describe the characters. I am helpless and powerless. I have failed in my duties of caring for my Queen. I have allowed her to slowly suffer in her tormented mind; I have allowed her spirit to crumble and her soul to be lost forever. I am simply a servant of my Queen; I have tended and comforted her since she married into the Macbeth house. Where as many young girls are worried about their pre-arranged marriage; so too was my lady until she saw Macbeth and swore that she had fallen in love. I have been there by her side for many years; I have seen her fall in love; I have seen her lose her loved ones. I was there the very day we drove away from her family, I sat with her the whole journey sitting quietly as I watched gentle tears fall down her face. It was that day that I saw how strong spirited she was. In my many years of my service and loyalty, I have not before witnessed such dark and dreary things, such crumbling of spirit and soul.…
