Cardi B Essay
The face of hip-hop is one that changes almost every five years. Every four to five years we see a distinct change of sound in the genre creating room for up and coming artists to make an impact in the industry. From what we’ve seen as of late, the era of Soundcloud rappers have taken hip-hop by storm generating new talent almost every day. Few of the artists have been able to separate themselves from the pact, making them some of the hottest newer acts in the game.

While we know acts like Drake, Kendrick, and Future have cemented their status, what about the next wave of artists? Acts like Lil Uzi Vert, Kodak Black, and Dave east are examples of the diverse sound that we see today. While all are respectively in their own lane, they have managed to become some of the hottest rappers in the game. Though an act like Dave East has been grinding

When Cardi came to fame through social media, a lot of people were hesitant to take her seriously when she announced she would be pursuing a rap career. For me personally, I thought when she first came out as a rapper her music was hot garbage. Fast forward and 100 million YouTube views, and a Billboard top three hit with "Bodak Yellow", she's proving that we need to take her seriously. One thing that Cardi has shown since entering the industry, she's willing to put in the work that many of her peers won't.

I was hesitant to make the claim at first, but "Bodak Yellow" has managed to turn into the song of the summer. The control that it has over people when the music comes on is undeniable. At this point in time, Cardi can legitimately be considered the hottest female rapper in the game. Now that she has the attention of everyone in the industry, it's time to see if she can do it again. Cardi is without question one of the top trending artists out right now.

Some say she is only remembered by her sex appeal and drug habits but it is so much more than that to me. I personally look past the sex and drugs and look at how she is so comfortable in her own skin and that just because she has some curves that it doesn’t make her “ugly” or “fat” it just makes her a little more meaty than most models are. She doesn’t cover herself up more because she is bigger she embraces it in a way to show other women that it is okay to be more the 100 pounds and that you can still be beautiful even if you’re “overweight.” And she never let the people who didn’t agree with her decisions and opinions change her and I think that is a big problem in our world…

Mclune goes on to say that artists should embody respect between genders through their music. She argues that Black female rappers are just as much to blame as their male peers. She encourages women to speak in a collective voice, as to defend themselves, instead of being “hyper feminine and hyper sexual to please men.” (McLune 215)…

the mainstream), without paths commonly crossing" (Fairfax) but, underground vs. mainstream died down as Kanye was one of the first artists to find diversity in working with artists from both sides. Kanye alone has completely modernized hip-hop into mainstream music. He's simply not just developing the genre of hip-hop anymore, but he's developing mainstream music for the urban culture to conform to. The reason why majority of his songs went mainstream is due to his experimentation with sounds and samples from rock, electro house music, and even old soul songs. Even with all the success and fame, tragedy can still knock some of the greatest…

Growing up in the 1980’s and the 90’s I became a huge fan of Hip-Hop music. My friends and I used to sit around for hours listening to our favorite rappers on the radio and watching the videos on television. We would argue for hours about who was a better lyricist and why. Now as I have grown older and the music I have grown to love and still listen to has changed, I find myself asking a very good question. What has changed in Hip-Hop from the time I was started listening to now? The answer is as complex as it is simple, the music itself has changed. The Hip-Hop music of today seems to be more commercial as opposed to being artistic and message driven.…

I’ve be a fan of Cardi B since her “hoe never gets cold” vine blessed my cellphone a couple of years ago. When she announced that she would start making music, I was certain that I wouldn’t be a fan, and she proved me right as her original music was nothing more than garbage juice. When she released “Bodak Yellow”, it was the first song to catch my attention, as it sounded polished and well put together. With the success of “Bodak Yellow” and the verses she has released recently, she actually has a number of people anticipating her album. To me it’s clear as day that she has a writer, and she even went on stage bragging how she will copy any rapper style as she desires. With the way hip-hop is today, it seem like Atlantic and fans don’t give a damn as long as she is making hits.…

The advanced evolution of technology began in the late 20th century with the cell phone, marking the turn of the expectations of technology (Sailus). Since then, the new generation developed with technology designed to be individualistic (Bump 2014). This exponential growth is aligned with the fast pace life Americans live today. Media has been no different. In order to maintain the fast pace of society, media has become commercialized and diluted, lacking substance and morality. This is important because this change in pace has impacted society in its entirety. Consequently, it appears as though people no longer care to take time to digest knowledge associated with true hip hop, devolving the genre on a mainstream scale. This has left current…

Rap and Hip-Hop has grown to be one of the most trendy type of music of the new generation. Influenced by the sounds of jazz and old soul came about a new type of music. Rap and Hip-Hop usually starts off with a musical beat followed by vocal rhymes and rhythm. Loud bass and different drums are involved too. Hip hop has changed drastically over the course of years. In the earlier ages, Hip hop artists valued plenty of originality by creatively expressing themselves in a positive way to their surroundings. Now it seems as if artists are preying on women as if they’re animals by lacking its true originality and being ran over by commercialism. Hip hop represents a tree gradually losing its leaves over time. Somehow, the hip hop culture has evolved from “From the heart it’s a start, a work of art, to revolutionize, make a change nothing 's strange people we are the same (Ridenhour, Carlton)” by Public Enemy to “Spit on a bitch, punch on a bitch after I eat some steak, have…

Today, rap music stands in the forefront of popular music, and the effect of hip-hop culture on the American public is blaringly evident. Yet, despite its commercialization, hip-hop has maintained its status as a highly valid method of…
