My career goals are to work within cardiology or a career that focuses on cardiac sciences. The occupation I hope to attain is Cardiac Physiologist (CP). Work values are characteristics of work that are important to one person’s job satisfaction and fulfillment. I am aware that I value other components in the workplace environment more than others. The components I value and prefer more are learning and skill development, ethics, teamwork, structure and client contact. Work values provide a sense of purpose in a career and help me understand what’s important personally in the work setting. The abilities and skills that I favor are attention to detail, teaching and mentoring, organizing, persistence to keep going and time management. These are the abilities that come easy for me to pick up and enjoy doing. Some academic interests I’ve recognized I obtain are contributing to people’s health and well-being, helping people recover from or manage illness and diagnosing and treating others. These interests are what holds my attention and stay focus. My …show more content…
In the next 12 months, I plan to undertake a Graduate Diploma and Certificate of Research Studies in Science as postgraduate studies because I believe that it can help achieve my career goals and reach my potential. With this, I can expand the skills and knowledge that I’ve already gained in my undergraduate course and improve my strengths. While studying, I hope to gain further clinical training and experience through either volunteering, internships or placements. In five years, I plan to finish my Graduate Diploma/Certificate and have completed 2.5 to 3 years of training in either a private (or public) hospital, GP’s practices, specialist departments or laboratories. After the clinical training, I plan to find employment in a physiology department where I could specialize in cardiac

After taking the five assessments within Focus 2, I learned a lot about myself. Within the work interest assessment, I scored the work interest Holland code of SIE. SIE stands for social, investigative, and enterprising. The social aspect is identified as “the helpers,” the investigative aspect is identified as “the thinkers,” and the enterprising aspect is identified as “the persuaders.” I was not aware that I excelled in these three aspects of my life. After learning about these interests, I can definitely see how I do excel in these throughout my life. When looking at my results on the values assessment, it is easy to already be aware of those. My values are something that affect my daily life and are something that I hold close to my heart. The three values that I received on the value assessment are helping others, income, and influence. My skills assessment told me that I am proficient in helping, reading comprehensions, and reasoning. These three skills are something that I enjoy and have done a good job at my whole life. When contemplating the roles and values of the nurse practitioner it is necessary for the student to first exam the career path and scope of the nurse practitioner. Nurse practitioners are registered nurses who have advanced education and training in a health care setting. They are practitioners with advanced degrees such as a Master of Science in nursing and are licensed as registered nurses who have practiced as a registered nurse for a minimum of at least two years. Most nurse practitioners early in their course work will identify a specialty area of nursing that they have an interest in doing research in. Determination of this specific area is usually influenced by what area of nursing the student has experience working in as a registered nurse. Other times, it is influenced by the illness of someone close to them or a family member. Cardiac health and transplantation is an area that this student wishes to pursue as a specialty area. My interest has been piqued by personal experience in this area with a family member. This student believes that this specialty area values the health and well-being of all mankind and that research is rewarded as a basis for providing new and upcoming trends in this specialty area. Through early detection and treatment of cardiac related illness, healthcare…
