When I was younger I never had a clue what I wanted to be when I got older. I was the kid that always just stood there and shrugged their shoulders. All that changed when I began applying to high school. I'd been influenced by Central High's prestigious law and government program. I knew for sure I wanted to attend Central High, everyone on my mother's side of the family had graduated from Central. I had always felt like I was lacking something, my younger brother knew what he wanted to be in middle school, when I was still undecided. When I attended The Showcase of Schools during my eight grade year that’s when I decided I wanted to be a lawyer. The kids were just so persuasive, telling me how much money I could make and how intense the cases were. The fact that the teacher was cool and meant business was an added bonus.
During your freshman year at Central you go through what is a called a "magnet rotation", which is where you visit each magnet for about 4 weeks to get the feel of it. Well when the law and government magnet came around it wasn't what I thought it would be. It was extremely boring and we didn’t do anything. I didn’t let that change my faith though. I had to be in the law magnet. When it came time for the teachers to make selections I ended up not getting selected. I was so devastated, I'd tried so hard and gave my all for that magnet. Well I ended up getting accepted into my second choice, which was accounting.
I'd always loved numbers so I knew I was fine but I still wanted to be in the law magnet. Once I finally got over not getting in the law magnet I began putting my all into accounting. I really ended up loving it, it was perfect for me! My teacher really made me feel welcomed and helped when I didn’t understand something. He believed in me when I really just wanted to give up.
