Ability to get social support by asking for and accepting assistance from friends and family
Patient will identify specific pain level that will allow her to perform ADL’S and pain will stay below the specific level for remainder of cancer progression
The nurse will encourage verbalization of end of life issues, and to call on friends or family for support.
The nurse will involve the palliative team to provide counseling and frequent contact with patient. Talk with and listen to patient.
Permit expressions of anger, fear, and despair. Give information that these feeling are normal and correct to express.
In addition to analgesics, support the patient’s non-pharmaceutical methods to help control pain such as, PT, group therapy, distraction, relaxation, massage, and heat/cold application. Rationale: Cognitative behavioral strategies can restore the patient’s sense of self-control, personal efficiency and active participation in her own care.
The coping outcome was not met. Mr. And Mrs. Thomas continue to not go out or have friends over
