Introduction
Jamaica has a rich cultural history that includes the practice of traditional folk medicine; this practice continues despite the changes and modernization in society where the country is now home to modern hospitals and medical practitioners. Roughly, 3,000 species of plants grow on the island, with 25 percent of them being found nowhere else on Earth. For centuries, herbal folk remedies have been practiced in Jamaica.
