Introduction
Criminal activity in the country of Belize has rapidly been increasing in the past decade. Furthermore there has been nothing done to counter act this criminal activity and citizens are starting to feel unsafe and harmed in their own country. Kings Park, a residential community in the city of Belize, is known to many as a very peaceful community which is now being targeted by delinquents. This research paper investigates the cause for the increase in burglary in the king’s park area. In a recent study conducted, results showed that most first time criminal offenders fall between the age group of 16-21. But what this study fails to conclude is the causes for these offenders turning to crime. That’s is the case in the residential community of kings park, where there has been a rapid increase in burglary but there has been no assessment as to why burglary is on the rise in this community. Therefore this research aims to quantitatively and qualitatively describe why individuals in this age range turn to burglary as a way to sustain their lifestyle. In addition this research will also bring forth reasons as to why a high rate in high school drop outs can lead to a high increase in burglary.
