Carl Hoffman Equal Same But Different Summary
Carl Hoffman is finally in his own country with his own people, America. While reading the chapter, “Same, Same, but Different”, I feel like Carl Hoffman was happy that he was in his own country, America but also I felt like he was missing his trip and those people who he met during his trip.

On page 271, in the second paragraph, Carl Hoffman said, “we hit Vegas that afternoon, and America seemed like the saddest place I’d seen in a month.” I felt worried because Vegas is the very popular city which has so many in Vegas, still, he thought that it's the saddest place he had seen. On page 272, Carl Hoffman said, “But this was Vegas, This was America.” And then he started to talk about some of the people which he met during his trip and with whom he was really comfortable and happy with. He talks about who would invite him for lunch or dinner in America just like some of the people was doing with Carl Hoffman. There were so many nice people during his trip and he was missing them when he returned to America.

He likes how they were taking care of him, how they were asking him for lunch and they were praying for him and for his safe journey. He was missing that in America because there was no one to do that kind of things for him except his

When finally arriving to America, Frank’s attitude changes completely: “I’m on deck the dawn we sail into New York. I’m sure I’m in a film, that it will end and lights will come up in the Lyric Cinema… There are thousands of cars speeding along the roads and the sun turns everything into gold. Rich Americans in top hats white ties and tails must be going home to bed with the gorgeous women with white teeth. The rest are going to work in warm comfortable offices and no one has a care in the world” (359). This represents Frank’s hopefulness for the future. He sees the sun which reminds him of his bright future, and all the cars show the obtainable wealth in America. He describes this surreal experience as a movie, so he’s destined to have a happy ending. What happened thus far in his life is the least of his concerns. THE BOOK IS SPLIT IN TWO HALVES. THE FIRST PART IS ESSENTIALLY THE BACKGROUND STORY OF GARCIA AND HIS TRAVELS. I BELIEVED THIS PART TO BE LEAST EFFECTIVE BECAUSE IT DID NOT HAVE A GREAT DEAL OF THE AUTHOR’S OPINION OR EMOTION INVOLVED.THE SECOND HALF IS THE AUTHOR'S DEFINITION OF THE TRUE HARD WORKING MAN, AN INDIVIDUAL TRULY WORTH HIS SALT. IT FULLY ENCOMPASSES THE MAIN POINT OF THE STORY…

First off, I noticed the author definitely did not like where the country is headed. It seemed like he was taking trip down memory lane, while also ranting about the government and how the current generation is super lazy and preoccupied with social media. I also noticed thought that he had a lot of pride for his country through his writing. He calls for the country to return to what it once was when neighbors respected and trusted each other and a handshake sealed a deal and you could not go back on it.…

There are many aspects of being a soldier, a soldier must have certain attributes and skill to maintain an everyday army lifestyle. They must not be lacking in any one of the attributes required. Punctuality and responsibility are among two of the most important attributes any one soldier must have. Punctuality is the ability to be at the right place in the right time in the right uniform. On any one day in the United States Army a soldier will be required to be at a certain place at a certain time in a certain uniform several times each day. The first example would be PT formation. Every day at PT formation prior to conducting PRT several important things happen. First of all, all soldiers are accounted for. This is important to make sure that all the soldiers are accounted for by the platoon sergeant and they are in good health and still alive. Second the platoon sergeant will often have important or useful information to the soldier. Third the first sergeant holds formation, making sure he has accountability of all of his soldiers and puts out any information that he may have. Last but not least the soldiers will conduct PRT. Being late and missing any of these events can have negative effects on the soldier other than just disciplinary action. If the soldier is not at formation in time, the platoon sergeant does not know where the soldier might be or in what condition that soldier might be in, for all they know the soldier could have gotten arrested the night before or worse. This in turn will cause an NCO to have to go to the barracks to look for the soldier, taking them away from the formation and any other business that may need to be handled by that NCO. Then the soldier will miss important information that needs to be put out by the platoon sergeant and mistakes on the soldiers part may be made due to the fact that he simply did not know. If the platoon sergeant has still not gotten ahold of the soldier by the time first sergeant holds formation, the…

Imagine waking in jail cell. What did you do? That’s right, you were walking on white streets after 6:30 pm without a pass. You got questioned, beaten, and thrown in here. As you look around, you begin to notice the other inmates. They are black, just like you. This was the reality from 1948 to 1994, during the Apartheid law. Black people were being discriminated against financially, emotionally, and mentally. Apartheid was a way for whites to gain more power and more control over the black population.…
