Carl Zimmer Secrets Of The Brain Summary
In “Secrets of the Brain” author Carl Zimmer outlines the various technologies that are advancing our knowledge of the brain and its functions.

The motivations leading to these discoveries stem from the neurological infirmaries that plague our society. There is so much unknown about our brains, which makes it nearly impossible to help those suffering from neural issues.

Questions about our brain stem from a lack of knowledge about it. What purpose do proteins serve? How can we study living brains? How can we intimately study brains with insufficient hard drive space?

The technology in studying the brain has great significance. It can help us understand and diagnose disorders, examine anatomy, detangle memory storage, decode how the brain

David Eagleman's remarkable neuroscience novel, Incognito: The Secret Lives of the Brain, literally puts the human mind to the test. Throughout the novel, Eagleman presents numerous examples, diagrams, and conjectures in order to explain the vital relationship between the mind's subconscious and biological abilities and the body. Contrary to popular belief, Eagleman explains to his readers that the brain is more than just a pink glob in the head of an individual, but the actual control system of the brain that has the ability to perform advanced tasks that one probably would have never imagined. As a whole, this novel definitely invigorated my thought processes as it's informative yet highly interesting connotation kept me wondering what astounding…

The McGill website states “If each hemisphere were unfolded, it would be the size of an extra-large pizza! For this reason, the brain must fold over on itself many times to fit into the skull (McGill “The Brain”). When a website used for academics, compares my brain to pizza I I’m Interested! Can a giant network of neurons make us who we are? The brain is one of the most complex organ of the human body. I chose "Secrets of the Brain" by Carl Zimmer because it seems so interesting to learn how our brain works. In this article, Carl Zimmer writes about how our brain really works by taking the journey and witness it by having a brain imaging done on him. He goes to Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging in Boston Harbor to perform this procedure. This procedure is called an "MRI" scan. Zimmer describes his experience during the scan and scientifically breaks down what is happening during the scan. Later on, he outlines the scientific discoveries and efforts of the scientific breakthroughs of the researchs done over the past. He talks about the brain research advances. He talks about how neuroscientists can start to identify differences in the…

The brain is the boss of the body, it runs the show and controls just about everything one does, even when one’s asleep. (Kidshealth, n.d.) During this brief tour guide of the brain, one will see how the brain fits into the Central Nervous System, how the main parts work together, and what would happen if one of those main parts were damaged.…

It seems nowadays, people have been using computers more frequently than in the past, it seems to become almost a requirement to have a computer in today’s modern times. Seems to be that technology, with it being almost everywhere we look is making the world evolve into something new. Psychology is known to be “the study of people” so you would assume that technology in general have no role in this field but this is incorrect (Paley). Psychology relies on the use of computers because it provides them with “tools and capabilities to study the human mind and human behavior” (Paley). One way of Psychology using technology into their field of work is by the Electroencephalogram (EEG), detects any defects in the brain related to electrical activity.…
