Carrie: The Author's Guardians Of The Galaxy
An introvert, feminist, and perfectionist, interviewing Carrie was a breath of fresh air because I have never befriended someone so set in stone in knowing who she is. In fact, she had a hard time determining her favorite movie, show, and book because she has so many. For instance, out of all her favorites, her most favorite movie is Guardians of the Galaxy, her favorite show is Doctor Who, and her favorite series is the Carrie Diaries, and she makes sure to emphasize that she does not favor the book based on its title. Although she is busy playing tennis for the school team, she still has time to enjoy the competitivity of basketball games. You can find her walking the school halls, or winning on the tennis courts, as her favorite thing about

Right from the start of the book Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy hits you with a foreshadowing of how small you are compared to community with the example of the demolition of Arthur Dent’s house. It shows how powerless Arthur Dent is to stopping the destruction of his house and how high and mighty humans feel by controlling what gets destroyed and what does not. Earth is treated just like Arthur Dent’s house, useless and in the way for something better. The Vogans address Earth as nothing more than construction and insinuate that if they couldn’t travel light years to read the fine print of the demolishment of Earth than they are better off dead. In the Hitchhiker’s guide to save room, humans were written in as “harmless” and why shouldn’t they be? Humans were for their whole existence ignorant to the fact that there was more than just…

Sabastian, Stevenson, and his dog, Buck, sat on their house’s back porch around a bonfire. Stevenson was watching Buck chase a lightning bug while Sabastian leaned back in his chair and gazed at the cosmos. His mind traveled back to a time before Stevenson found him in the village pub, to a time when he was adventurous and quick witted. He had flown through those same star constellations that he stared at now. As Sabastian let his mind wander, he didn’t care to notice a particularly bright star; Stevenson and Buck noticed it though. “Sabastian,” asked Stevenson, “look!”…

Desmond, a Black businesswoman from Halifax, was given a seat at the balcony when she was at the movies. She tried to “upgrade” her ticket, but the cashier refused her request. Regardless, she went to sit on the main floor. Consequently, a manager told her to leave the “white-only” section, but she declined, because she couldn’t accept the unfairness to her race. The police arrived and dragged her out by force, injured her, and also left her in jail for the night. Carrie, an ally of Desmond, saw that she was in a helpless situation with the court; she helped Desmond through her trial by featuring her story in The Clarion and asking the viewers to contribute to the cost for Desmond’s legal battle. Nonetheless, all five judges of the Supreme Court rejected their case, but this incident demonstrated how much Carrie wanted to support her fellow Blacks and advocate their rights in…

For my interview, I chose to have a very close family member tell part of her life story, For the purpose of this interview, we will call her Karla. She came to the United States with her parents when she was a little girl. She grew up in the middle of two cultures, exposed to two different ways of life. She always manages to be in a great mood and I can always count on her opinion on many subjects, with the certainty she always tries to approach every subject with a non-bias opinion. She grew up knowing the good and bad about being a bilingual child, raised with parents that did not speak Spanish. She is always telling us stories on “when she was growing up.” She managed to put herself through college with no family financial assistance.…

I honestly loved interviewing my own cousin. It’s sad to hear, I really did cry half of the time. But when I asked her the question about changing something in life, I was amazed by her response. Everyone has a story. A rhyme and reason for what they do and why they do it. Sharing those experiences with the world bring out the true flavor of who you are. Before I came to Howard, I was so shy to share my story with people. I was uncomfortable in finding and expressing myself, and I was jealous of those who did not find it a struggle. While sitting back and seeing my peers impact others by how they expressed themselves, it started to make me get out of my shell as well. Dia Bui’s story that we went over the first week of school was something that really made an impact on me early on in the year.…
