Carrots

Carrots is a root vegetable that originated in Afghanistan over 5000 years ago for there seeds and leaves. But today carrots are enjoyed for their fresh delicious flavours coming in all shapes and sizes in a variation of different colours like orange, red, yellow, purple, and white. Carrots can be purchased in all kinds of forms shredded, baby carrot, diced, sliced, regular size with leaf on or leaf off. Carrots can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 months but to prevent spoilage remove green leaves because the leaves draw moisture from the root causing carrots to dry out. Also carrots should be stored away from apples because they give off ethylene gas which causes carrots to become bitter. Purchasing carrots from the grocery store should be dried off if they are wet and tightly sealed in a plastic bag, what this does is it increases the nutrition value. Carrots contain B-carotene (a source of vitamin A), also it has fibres, anti-oxidants, minerals, calcium, potassium, magnesium, vitamins C,K and B6, also carrots helps improve eye sight, skin nourishment, hair growth, and reduces the risk of heart disease, and cancer. Carrots have many alternative ways they can be used like chopped for mirepoix, blended for drinks, boiled for soups & stews, fried for stir fry, steamed for side dishes, gratered for carrot cake, beauty remedies for hair & skin, or simply eaten raw. There are many recipes for carrots like carrot cake, glazed carrots, or ginger carrot soup.

Being a part of a team is something that an athlete should not take for granted. Being considered a true teammate is the goal of any team player. He who puts the team before himself at any given moment, at any time, on any given day, is a characteristic of a quality teammate. A teammate should possess many qualities which make him have a better connection and a better bond with the team. Every team has leaders and followers, as well as hard workers and the non-workers. These titles show that a team is a diverse group that must gel together and become one unit. The great Kobe Bryant once said, "I'll do whatever it takes to win games, whether it's sitting on a bench waving a towel, handing a cup of water to a teammate, or hitting the game-winning…

"Oranges" begins with Gary Soto narrating one of his life experiences in this poem. He remembers a particular experience of walking side by side with a girl. There are two characters a twelve year old boy and his date. When the poem begins, the narrator is alone, and on his way to go pick up the girl. It was winter time and he only had two oranges with him, which his purpose was to share them with his date. The beginning of the poem is not very positive, though, but rather negative. In addition, he allows his focus wandering from the poem's main situation, his first experience with a girl, and instead makes a point of dwelling on the cold weather.…

The year is 1942. Families living in their most beloved country, the United States of America, stare at their radio sets in onset fear as they witness secondhand one of the most destructive and harrowing events in the history of their country. Standing before all this is a man who has gone through tough and harsh times, due to an illness he has contracted earlier in his life. The man is Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and he must now deliver one of the most heroic speeches his land will ever need. Similar to Roosevelt, there are many people in both history and literature who have been plagued with an illness or wound. These people either step down to the wound, or learn to overcome it. The “Unhealable Wound” is a reoccurring archetype in literature, expressing an injury or defect that a character must learn to beat in order to stay alive or acquire success. In A Separate Peace, Finny shatters his leg and must learn to forget sports and move on with his life. In The Poisonwood Bible, Adah Price is born with a limp and minor paralysis of the left side of her body. She is looked at as an inferior to her sisters, and must learn how to ignore this constant criticism. It is necessary for these two characters, as well as FDR, to ignore their “wound” in order to be successful and happy.…

The focus point in Sylvia Plath's "Mushrooms" has to do with the Women Rights movement. Though reading the poem one would think it would simply be about mushrooms but Plath has incorporated poetic elements such as speaker, setting and situation, diction and tone as well as imagery. Plath uses mushrooms to represent women sprouting out of no where, as mushrooms do, and fight for Women Rights. By using diction and tone as well as five syllables a line to stress certain words it is clear what her message was; there is no stopping women as they multiple overnight.…

Pumpkin seeds are rich in a plant based chemical called phytosterols that reduce “bad” cholesterol and LDL. Having too much cholesterol can cause a heart attack, stroke, and coronary heart disease. When too much “bad” cholesterol circulates through your blood, it can slowly build a wall of plaque in the arteries. That will make them narrower so it is easier to get a clot and have a heart attack. Pumpkins can also reduce your risk of cancer. Pumpkins have a lot of the antioxidant beta-carotene which plays a role in cancer prevention. THey have been doing research and researchers have found that having a food with beta-carotene in it works better than a supplement, so eating pumpkin is more effective in cancer prevention rather than a dietary supplement. The carotenoid in the pumpkins can also help your skin. Like I said earlier, your body converts the carotenoid into vitamin A. The vitamin A helps your skin stay wrinkle free for longer. If you eat even one carrot a day, that helps your skin. The seeds can also boost your mood. The seeds have a lot of amino acid tryptophan which is a very important part when it comes to the production of…

The potato originated in the South American Andes, but its heartland of wild genetic diversity reaches from Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, southern Brazil, northward into Central America, Mexico, and the southwestern United States. Potato was first cultivated between 3 and 7 thousand years ago, some scientists believe they may have grown wild in the region as long as 13,000 years ago. Potato is the third most important food crop in the world after rice and wheat in terms of human consumption. More than a billion people worldwide eat potato, and global total crop production exceeds 300 million metric tons. Located in Lima, Peru The international potato center maintains the largest collection of potatoes in the world, including more than 7,000 accessions of native, wild, and improved varieties. Potatoes can grow from sea level up to 4,700 meters above sea level from southern Chile to Greenland. Potatoes are produced in over 100 countries worldwide. Potato is vegetative propagated, meaning that a new plant can be grown from a potato or piece of potato, called a “seed”. The new plant can produce 5 through 20 new tubers, which will be genetic clones of the mother seed plant. Potato plants also produce flowers and berries that contain 100-400 botanical seeds. Potatoes can have white, yellow, pink, red, purple, and even blue flesh color. Yellow is primarily due to the presence of carotenoids concentrations, red, purple, and blue color have anthocyanin’s.
