Case 1 1
1. What type of network would you recommend and why?
For Thrift Towne, I would suggest a peer-to-peer network. This networking system is easy to configure and inexpensive. These are two qualities Thrift Towne is interested in for their Network. Since security is not an issue, this would also be a good network for them because through this network data and resources are shared therefore making it less secure than other types of networks.
2. What kind of additional equipment would Thrift Towne have to purchase to make your solution work?
I would also suggest that Thrift Towne use a LAN network since they are confined to one building with only four clients. They also may want to invest in some sort of printing service that they could use to share a printer on their network instead of purchasing a printer for each workstation. However, printer services are typically more expensive but may be useful in the long run for Thrift Towne.
3. What role (or roles) would you assign to each of the four workstations and any other equipment you recommend?
One of the workstations would be in charge of taking on the role of the server. This person would have to have the most technical experience, as they would be the one in charge of managing all of the shared resources. As the server, this computer would need the most disk space so I would suggest that they invest in more memory space. Another role would be a computer who would be the host. This person would have the responsibility of enabling resources to be shared between each of the computers.
4. What type of upgrades, if any, might the workstations require to make your solution work?
Thrift Towne is a fairly small group of clients so upgrades may not be necessary for their organization. If they were to make an upgrade anything however, I would suggest they invest in is a new NOS (network operating system). This will allow them to have more extensive capabilities within their network.

After reviewing the clients standard needs to upgrade the businesses operating systems and their current computer specifications as provided I have to come to two conclusions. The first thing I would like to say is that with 1 GB ram, 1.8 GHz processor and a DirectX 9 graphics adapter with WDDM it will be possible at minimum to upgrade to a windows 7 operating system. The version that I would recommend for the company is Windows 7 professional because it provides data protection with advanced network backup and EFS. This edition was designed for a business environment and can be centrally managed by a domain controller which would be perfect for the main office at the same time supporting the external computers running at the warehouse across town.…

Time is a risk for this project on several levels. 173 employees this will be affected as well as their customers. The company has agreed that this is a good move, however, if the process of setting up the equipment, managing the security and providing training goes on too long, then it will start to negatively affect the company over-all. Currently there is concern if the technology will be delivered due to an unforeseen fire, this set back will be costly in time and work. Also, a second part of time being a risk is managing faulty or dying equipment. Home offices will take longer to assess and fix in the long run. IT staff will either have travel to employee’s homes, or employees will be held up having to come into the home office for repairs.…

First thing we have to determine is if the corporation would like to upgrade their hardware. An enterprise level company wishes to set up a network to support several hundred business users as well as manufacturing equipment in a new building. Describe what network device or devices you would recommend they purchase and explain why. Note, you are not required to detail the media or topology utilized, but thinking about these will help you to choose and justify your device choices. I would suggest the purchase of a rack system with two servers on large server to handle the few hundred computers and users and the other to handle the manufacturing equipment. This would give them choices for backups and file sharing between one another. The servers…

With only three stores, their company is structured with only a few departments: Administration, consisting of Finance & Accounting, Sales & Marketing, Human Resources, Operations, and Information Technology. With only three locations, Kudler does not need an extensive organization. They currently have a Bus Topology implemented that does not allow the stores to communicate with each other. The networks are separate and if a network server goes down, there are not any backups or securities set up. The ability to communicate wirelessly will give Kudler some mobility and will allow the locations to be centralized. The La Jolla and Del Mar locations each have a Novel 4.11 Server for POS as well as a UPS-Standalone tower, a bublejet printer, and a 56k modem. Their six computers are hooked up to a 10.1.50.0 Ethernet Network and all systems use the Ethernet Network to hook on to the Internet. The Encinitas location has a Novell 4.11 Server for POS as well. Their location is a bit smaller with only three computers. Their network includes a 56k modem and Internet.…

This project will upgrade the company’s database system within Human Resources. All database information will now be stored on the new database server that will be installed at the main headquarters. The database servers that are already installed at each local site will be reconfigured to send and receive updates to the main server so that all database servers are mirrored. Hard disk drive space will be upgraded to account for database growth at each location. Employees that require access to this database will need approval from the Human Resources department to protect employee information. This project will not update the actual database software but will reconfigure the software to be accessible across the company network as well as combine all database information into one large database. A new task of nightly backups will be initiated at the main headquarters once the new database setup is completed.…
