In an ever changing world, where a business can appear one day and are gone the next, General Motors has adopted a strategy to avoid this catastrophe. Knowing if they wanted to stay in the game, they would have to make a few sacrifices and changes for the better future of the company.
1) Which of the four basic strategy types were used by GM? Explain your rational. It appears that General Motors presented the personas of being both prospectors and reactors. Prospectors are identified for producing their own opportunities and being gallant and working after an opportunity, not sitting idly by and waiting for something to occur. After taking the bailout from the federal government, GM aspired to make an extraordinary income of $10 billion dollars a year. Prospectors frequently place fear into the hearts of their competitors and that is what GM was trying to accomplish. I consider that is precisely what GM was trying to do by confronting the upper level markets such as BMW and Hyundai corporations. It was presenting a confidence in something unidentified, which could rebound and cause them to suffer in the later on down the road (Kinicki & Williams, 2013, p. 135&150).
General Motors correspondingly displayed traits of being reactionary in their planning. They apparently were in a substantial amount of debt and could not advance without the government bailout. They postponed until they were required to confront the problem and solve it. The two cuts made by GM indicate that they are reactors. The first was the inkling was to offer enticements in 2011. Although sales were jumping, they essentially had a profit loss in North America. This was a reactionary change stimulated by the necessity to get sales rolling.
