Following are the steps an expert might use to complete this lab.
Create a Scope
1. In the DHCP management console, open the DHCP server.
2. Right-click the protocol for which you wish to create the scope and choose New Scope....
3. Click Next to start the New Scope wizard.
4. Name the scope, then click Next.
5. Type a start IP address and an end IP address.
6. Set the subnet mask by typing the mask value (example: 255.255.255.0) or typing the number of subnet mask bits (example: 24) in the Length field.
7. Click Next.
8. Type the starting and ending IP address for any exclusions. (Note: To exclude a single address, type the start address but leave the end address blank.) Click Add.
9. Click Next when you have defined all required exclusions.
10. Configure the lease duration. Click Next.
11. Select the No, I will configure these options later option to postpone configuring other DHCP options, then click Next.
12. Click the Finish button to close the wizard and create the
scope.
If you do not configure additional options, you must manually activate the scope.
Activate a Scope
Before the new DHCP server will distribute addresses for a scope, you must activate the scope. To activate a scope:
1. In the DHCP Management console, browse and select the scope.
2. Right-click the scope and choose Activate.
Add a DHCP Server to the Console
By default, not every DHCP server on the network appears in the management console. You can add other servers to the console to work with their configuration.
1. In the DHCP management console, right-click the top node and choose Add Server... from the drop-down menu.
2. You can select the server you want to add in one of the following ways: o Type the name or IP address of the server. o Click Browse and select the server from a list. o If the server you want to manage is an authorized server, select the "This authorized DHCP server" option and select the server from the list.
3. Click OK
Create an Exclusion Range
1. Choose Start | Administrative Tools | DHCP to open the DHCP snap-in. Click Continue as necessary.
2. Browse to and expand the appropriate protocol.
3. Expand the Scope folder.
4. Right-click the Address Pool node and choose New Exclusion Range....
5. Enter the starting and ending IP addresses. To exclude a single IP address, leave the ending address blank. Click Add.
6. Click Close to close the Add Exclusion Range dialog.
