Case Analysis: Carl Robins First Recruitment
Abstract
This is the case study of Carl Robins, the new campus recruiter for ABC, Inc. Carl Robins was hired by Monica Carroll’s and was to hire 15 new trainees. Carl was responsible for organizing a new hire orientation for June 15. One month prior to the scheduled orientation Carl assured Monica everything would be completed on time including; mandatory drug testing, orientation manuals, completed applications and a location for the event. After Memorial Day while Carl was finalizing orientation paper work he realized some of the trainees’ paperwork was not completed and that none of the trainees have been sent in for the mandatory drug testing. Carl later found out that the training room was already reserved on the day of orientation and for the entire month of June. In fear of failing his first recruitment Carl panicked and scrambles what to do next. The situation could have been avoided a number of different ways: Carl could have involved Monica and asked for help. Monica could supervised completion of the tasks and offered her assistances.
Carl and Monica clearly lacked the ability to communicate in regards to this assignment; thus both individuals were put in a bind and this created frustration and potentially a negative outcome for Carl’s first recruitment. Had there have been proper communication between Carl and Monica, Carl could have pulled off a successful recruitment. When Carl first realized the new trainee applications were not complete he should have gone straight to Monica and inform her of the situation and she could have helped resolve the issues and help get the recruitment back on track. On the other hand, Monica, being the boss had the responsibility to periodically check in on Carl. Had Monica been checking in on Carl, she would have caught the issues before it got out of hand.
