Are New Recruits Looking for Work-Life Balance?

1. (25 points) Why is there a need for companies to offer work-family balance programs, such as flextime, telecommuting and job sharing?
There is a need for companies to offer work-family balance programs for a couple reasons. Companies need to offer these programs because it is a great recruiting tool to have. They will be able to attract better prospects for their company having programs like these in place. It also allows for employees to care for family members when they are in need of extra help.
2. (25 points) Of the three programs discussed above, which would be the most important program for you personally when deciding whether or not to join an employer? Why?
Of these three programs, I would have to say the most important to me would be either flextime or telecommuting. If I only could pick one, I would have to say the most important program that would make me want to join an employer would be telecommuting. I think telecommuting would be at the top of my list because if there is an emergency that comes up, you can still tend to the emergency and get work done from that location. Or if something on a smaller scale would happen, like your child has a “snow day” from school, you could stay home to care for them and still be able to get important work done. This would also allow you to use your personal and vacation days for more planned events.
3. (25 points) Some organizations do not believe in offering work-life balance programs. What do you think their reasoning is? Explain.
I think that some organizations do not believe in offering work-life balance programs for a few reasons. One reason that employers might not offer these programs is that they feel people would take advantage of the program.
