Case: GODSBANEN

Aarhus now has a new exciting cultural production center located in the old Freight yard, which has been transformed into a cultural production center for performing arts, visual arts and literature. The official opening took place on March 30th 2012. The name of the new art production center is GODSBANEN. A brochure about GODSBANEN is located in appendix (1). The purpose of the production center is to create a place where the production of art is the main focus. The idea is that GODSBANEN is a place where all actors within as well as in borderline of the various performing arts, visual arts and literature get the best possible conditions for creating and developing their arts. The premises and facilities are available for performers at all levels. The art production center GODSBANEN will also serve as a meeting place for people with different approaches to the concept of culture. Although culture is at the core of the center both the business and educational sector will be active participants of the center. Therefore, GODSBANEN will largely be a transverse venue. Private companies will also be able to make use of the production center as well as the cultural skills which are found at the location. The city hopes that new companies based on cultural competencies will emerge hereof and settle down in the surrounding urban areas. Furthermore, it is intended that the production center is to interact with the surrounding urban areas. GODSBANEN strives to be an extrovert institution which contributes positively to the new urban space which will emerge in the surrounding track areas. Finally, the city of Aarhus clearly anticipates that the development of the production center will strengthen the position of the city both nationally as well as internationally ‐ hereby creating visibility for the three different genres of art namely performing arts, visual arts and

Thomas Paine’s “Common Sense” happens to be one of if not the most influential and motivational works of the year 1776 at the beginning of the American Revolution. Not only did it present a viable argument against the need for reconciliation with Great Britain and give a multitude of reasons for the need to depart from the rule of the British monarchy, but it also brought on an increasing sentiment for revolution amongst the colonies and inspired the writing of the Declaration of Independence. This essay will outline the most relevant argument made in Paine’s literary work that lead to its popularity amongst the British colonists, and how its influence lead to the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It will also give the opposing views of the many colonists from North America and the Caribbean who remained loyal to the British Empire, and give a sound counter-argument against the ideas of “Common Sense” and the need for a revolution and a Declaration of Independence.…

When Craig Silvey published his novel, Jasper Jones, in 2009, Australia was a very different place in comparison to the small Western Australian town of Corrigin in 1965, the fictional setting of the narrative. A knowledge of the context of text production and the context of the world of the text can help us to gain a deeper understanding of the issues raised in the novel. Most importantly, the novel foregrounds values such as egalitarianism, multiculturalism and racial and gender equality, while promoting attitudes towards these which in most cases are vastly different to those held by most Australians almost half a century ago.…
