In Excel, or other suitable program, develop a model for shipping the waste directly from the 6 plants to the 3 waste disposal sites.

Solve the model you developed in #1 (above) and clearly describe the results. In Excel, or other suitable program. Develop a transshipment model in which each of the plants and disposal sites can be used as intermediate points.

6 Plants labeled 1 through 6, 3 waste facilities labeled A through C

Objective function:
Minimize Z = 1A(12) + 1B(15) + 1C(17) + 2A(14) + 2B(9) + 2C(10) + 3A(13) + 3B(20) + 3C(11) + 4A(17) + 4B(16) + 4C(19) + 5A(7) + 5B(14) + 5C(12) + 6A(22) + 6B(16) + 6C(18);

Subject to:
1A + 1B + 1C = 35
2A + 2B + 2C = 26
3A + 3B + 3C = 42
4A + 4B + 4C = 53
5A + 5B + 5C = 29
6A + 6B + 6C = 38
1A + 2A + 3A + 4A + 5A + 6A ≤ 65
1B + 2B + 3B + 4B + 5B + 6B ≤ 80
1C + 2C + 3C + 4C + 5C + 6C ≤ 105

All Combinations ≥ 0
Solver add-on solution in MS Excel yielded the following results:
35 bbl of wastes shipped from Kingsport to Whitewater,
26 bbl of waste shipped from Danville to Duras,
42 bbl of wastes shipped from Macon to Duras,
1 bbl of wastes shipped from Selma to Whitewater,
52 bbl of wastes shipped from Selma to Los Canos,
29 bbl of wastes shipped from Columbus to Whitewater,
28 bbl of wastes shipped from Allentown to Los Canos,
10 bbl of wastes shipped from Allentown to Duras.
Total Cost = $2,822

Rachel is considering using each of the plant and waste disposal sites as intermediate shipping points. Now, there is a possibility to reduce the transportation coat by utilizing alternative routes. For example, as per the given cost table, cost to transport from Kingsport to Duras is $17. Instead of this route, if we transport first from Kingsport to Macon and then from Macon to Duras the

The problem basically consists of finding the optimum set of routes that represent the lowest possible total cost and/or total travel time. The plant is dealing with the repositioning of trucks to serve its supply demand and determining a number of transportation units that optimally balance supply requirements against the cost of maintaining the transportation units. In order to increase truck utilization and achieve better performance, the plant has to adequately and efficiently ensure the scheduling of a steady supply of hogs.…

On average, 18000 barrels arrive over the 12hr span that the business is open. This means approximately 1500 barrels of berries are input into the process per hour (18000barrels/12hrs). The capacity of the Kiwanee dumpers was given as 3000 b/hr., and I was able to calculate the implied utilization by dividing the berry input rate by the capacity(1500bbl/hr divided by 3000bbl/hr). To calculate the actual utilization of the dumpers, you must first determine the flow rate of the system. Only 25% of the berries are dry and 75% are wet. This sums to 375 dry berries per hour (1500 input/hr x.25) and 1125 wet berries per hour (1500 input x .75). The dry berries have 16 bins that hold 250 barrels a piece, adding up to a total of 4000 berries that can be stored. The wet berries have 8 bins that hold 250 barrels and 3 bins that hold 400 barrels, adding up to 3200 barrels total for storage. The capacity of the DeStoners was given as 1500bbl/hr. The implied utilization would be the input rate (1500bbl/hr) divided by the capacity (1500 bbl/hr). Since the bottleneck does…

Besson Freight Company had an agreement with Jay Transportation to purchase their assets for 225 million. In order to finance their purchase, Besson asked a shareholder in Besson, Deltona Lines, to invest 110 million. Deltona agrees with the stipulation that the investment be made into a newly formed subsidiary named Del-Bess Inc. Deltona will own 80 percent of Del-Bess voting preferred stock. Also in Deltona’s agreement, Besson would contribute an amount to be determined by Del-Bess for the remaining 20 percent of the voting preferred stock and all non-voting common stock. Then Del-Bess would be the entity to purchase the assets from Jay Transportation and lease them to Besson Freight Company. The remaining 60 million necessary to fund the purchase would be provided by bank financing.…

There is a total capacity (rail carloads) of 14 that is available to serve a total demand (rail carloads sold) of 15. With this mentioned, there is an unbalanced capacity and demand. To solve for the proper shipping route, we will have to include a dummy variable equal to 1, which is the difference between capacity and demand. This means one customer will receive a shortage of 1 rail car of grain. In addition, we need to meet certain requirements (constrains) that limit the capacity from origin (outbound) as well as (inbound) constraints at destinations. Not to mention, we also have two processing centers (hubs) constraints.…

After this, the lowest cost after the first is looked for. Warehouse 3 is already taken care of so none of the costs need to be looked at in that column. The next most efficient cost is Shuzworld H to Warehouse 1 and Shanghai to Warehouse 2. Shanghai can only produce 1,300 units so Warehouse 2 will take those units and still have a demand for 300 more units. Warehouse 1 only needs 300 more units to complete its demand so it will take those units from Shuzworld H leaving Shuzworld H…
