A Study of Classroom Disciplinary Problems

The Problem
INTRODUCTION
The concept of discipline or of disciplinary procedures as a characteristic of the condition in teaching presents some serious problem that leads to create a research for the sake of the students also in part of the teachers.
Within this study are discussions of behavior problems and attitudes of pupils toward school work, which at times I the past have been at least partly tied up with discussions of discipline. Similarly in terms of emotional and mental behavioral aspects of a student in school that sum p as irresponsible act like rebellions. This could be a smaller problem for discipline to deal with, thus it is clearly becoming a problem in education. This leaves inspiration to formulate answerable questions in order to derive fairly good procedures in the implementation of disciplinary concepts.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This research analyzed the disciplinary problems encountered by Fourth Year High School Teachers in Puerto Galera National High School Fourth Year Lower Sections in school year 2010-2011.
Especially this study answers the following question.
1. What are the attitudes of fourth year pupils mainly on lower sections toward school work?
2. What disciplinary problems are encountered in the classroom as perceived by the students?
3. Is there an significant relationship between disciplinary problems encountered by the teachers and pupils attitude toward school work?
Statement of the Hypothesis
No significant relationship exists between classroom disciplinary problems and pupils attitude toward school work.

Many strategies are in place and used throughout the lessons to manage behaviour. One particular strategy is used throughout the whole school and has proven success. Through out each lesson pupils are monitored on their punctuality, conduct, behaviour and level of achievement. At the end of each lesson each pupil is asked a set of simple clear questions and graded accordingly from 1-5. (1 being poor to 5 being excellent). The teacher will discuss with each pupil the events of the lesson; will question all aspects of the conduct, why they were late? Why they misbehaved? Did you achieve your goals? Albeit the academic achievement is of upmost importance their behaviour plays a huge overall part of their grade. The grade sheets are transferred throughout the day to each lesson so all staff are aware of how each child is behaving. The grade sheet lands on the Head Mistresses desk at the end of each day. In this case, it seems that I am placed as a principal in a rural school that needed serious change; else the reputation of this school resumes going downhill. As soon as I am posted there, I decided to inquire information and feedbacks from the teachers and the other employees to get a grasp on what is going on in the school and what is the cause of the teachers’ low morale in this workplace and analyze the case. Apart from getting facts and figures of the status of the school, I also casually ask them on their opinions on how to improve the school so that I get the gist of what they want and needs to be changed. Based on this, I theorized that the low morale of the educators and the high levels of truancy that is occurring in this school can be connected to each other. Low morale of the educators seems to stem from the truancy of the students. Most of the teachers question themselves whether their hard work will bear any fruit as the students’ truancy cases became worse day by day. The teachers’ doubts then results in their morale decreasing which affects the teaching quality. From the students’ standpoint, it seems that their discipline is at a point of disarray caused by the low morale of the teachers. They made their own conclusion that the teachers are teaching them unwillingly (a simple misunderstanding) which caused them even less motivated to study; hence the increasing numbers of truancy cases.
