Why did you choose Inverness?
Eneco’s head office is based in Rotterdam, Holland. When we set out the UK business we had an opportunity to purchase our first asset, Tullo in Aberdeenshire Scotland. As our portfolio of assets started to grow we asked the question ‘can you operate these projects remotely, can you do them from Rotterdam?’ We needed to have a consolidated Scottish team that could look after our Scottish assets and we felt it was necessary to have an operations team based in Scotland. It needed to be local and that is very much the ethos of Eneco. It’s really about been on the ground and operational and that’s why we have a business located in Inverness. For us, it’s about location and having our assets based in the north, south, east and west of Scotland it was more logical to have an office in Inverness. You could have argued why not Edinburgh or Aberdeen, but Inverness for us, as a business has everything we need. I can only see Inverness going from strength to strength as a tourist destination and as a place to do business. What we were keen to do was to use a local office rather than a serviced one. Dochfour, where our Inverness office is based brings economic benefits, there are a lot of renewable business in that particular business park and the ethos is there for us; with the biomass boiler. Fergus Ewing time wrote to us when we first started the business there to thank us for using a local business. Everything we do is local from local community engagement around our wind and solar farms to using a local office
