How would you feel if a 14-year old boy lived with his brothers and is substandard? Would you want him to live with them or be in better care in a foster care? Pony boy Curtis should be in foster care for the best of care. Foster care has a more stable place to live, better care, and it helps so he does not break laws. So therefore, he should be in foster care.…
The Legislation Policies and Procedures course has taught me a lot about advocacy, including why advocates are necessary for children. According to the article “Definitions and Reasons for Advocacy,” one of the reasons why advocates are important is that adults listen to adults, but do not always listen to children. The article "Foster-Care System Stretched Too Far" is an illustration of the consequences that arise when there is no advocate for children to ensure they are heard by adults. The case of Logan Marr mentioned in this article has forced me to consider how I would respond if a client disclosed abuse to me as well as the follow up actions that should be taken. In this course, I have also learned about ethics, especially the ones…
The foster home environment is one that will encourage Tracey's independent living skills while allowing her to interact with people who are interested in helping her grow. The foster home offers a smaller, more independent situation than the group home, and prepares her for apartment living (Heward, 2013). Tracy currently has difficulties with transitions and is better with routine. The foster home offers a smaller environment in which interruptions and alterations to her schedule will occur on a smaller scale than it might in a group home. Tracey will have the opportunity to increase her ability to adapt these changes slowly thereby increasing her chances of success.…
As I place these children in a temporary Foster home, I would focus and help Leila the mother to improve children-parent relations better and care taker and below are ways I would support her:…
Enhancing the Quality of Parental Legal Representation Act of 2013 is a newly proposed policy that is currently being reviewed in the House committee on Ways and Means. This policy is designed to aid in resolving the issue of children being in foster care for longer periods than necessary by providing the parents involved in the child welfare system with proper quality legal representation. As this issue and policy are reviewed it is necessary to analyze the nature of the cause of the problem, what the policy intends to accomplish, the extent that the policy will address the need, the possible unintended effects of the policy, and potential recommendations that could be made with regard to the proposed policy.…
Which means, they are involved with foster care because they may not be able to have children of their own, their own children are grown, religiously motivated, or they were once in the foster care system themselves. Non-related foster care providers have more resources available to them for children in recovery. There is also extensive training for non-related foster care providers, so that they know how to handle children in recovery. The disadvantage of nonrelated foster care is that “when children are placed in nonrelative care, both the children and caregivers will require time to forge attachment bonds.”(Font 2076) These relationships are even more difficult to formulate due to the fact that the children in non-related foster care tend to move around more often and have a less stable environment than that of children in kinship programs. Caregivers in non-related foster care may not be invested in the overall outcome of the…
“The social determinants are conditions in which people born, grow, live, work and age, which are shaped by the distribution of money, power and resources at global, national and local levels” (Who, 2017). Within my agency the social determinants factor our client deals, resources, money and housing availability, since Broward county has a few housing available. In addition, for the housing that is available, most clients do not have the income to meet the requirement to get a housing. For example, a client might available month and sustain themselves to live in those high value decent apartments. The issues come with some Apartment might agencies asking for the first month, deposit, and last month rents together, making very difficult for…
What is foster care and why would kids be placed in it? Foster Care is where minors are placed in a temporary home with a foster parent or parents. The placement is run through the government or a social service agency. “Most kids go into foster care or go to a foster family because his or her mom or dad has a problem with drugs or alcohol.” (“Foster Care”).“Other children are removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect and placed in Foster Care.” (“The Future of Children”). People need to understand what foster care is and why kids have to leave their homes, before judging who or what the kids have been through.…
The number of children in foster care continues to rise each year, reflecting the flaws and problems within the system. It is a known fact that children who have been abused or neglected often have a range of unique physical and mental health needs (First Focus, 2008). The Massachusetts foster care systems seems to be struggling with the following issues: providing safe homes for the children, reducing the length of stay in foster care by increasing the adoption rates, improving the education system and health care systems for both children in and those transitioning out of foster care and a plan to provide adolescents with better life skills to foster independence after foster…
valuable information from their clients. With the youth not knowing about these programs, they often never reach out or they reach out to late. The results are often devastating. Youths often end up homeless, incarcerated, or deceased. When this happens to the youth, they are at the lowest of their life and they need all of the help they can get to turn their lives back into the right direction.…
Foster Care is designed as a temporary service that responds to crises in the lives of children and families, giving the help that they need to have a happier healthy life. Most children develop a positive relationship with their parents as they get older to become a better person and do the same thing; giving support to other children who are willing to be a part in your family, like they are your own. You can have a tremendous impact on a child in need by opening your home and your heart. Foster Care takes extra care to place children in just the right homes and provides specific training and support to assist each child in developing positive social, educational and emotional skills and discovering their strengths and potential for future…
There are several reasons why children enter foster care such as abandonment, caregiver’s death, domestic violence, medical neglect, parent’s incarceration, physical abuse, sexual abuse, truancy, and voluntary placement. Sadly, many homes have more than one of the following issues and a child enters the foster care system for numerous reasons. Annually tens of thousands of children in the United States are placed in foster care. These children are often burdened by the unprecedented levels of domestic violence, physical, emotional, and mental abuse in their homes.…
