Given Shaq’s dominance in Orlando and his inexperience, Kobe didn’t have a problem letting Shaq be the alpha dog. The duo struggled their first few years together, not achieving their championship desires. That all changed in the 1999-2000 season. Kobe played at a whole other level while Shaq continued to play his dominant style in the post. This development lead to three championships in 2000, 2001, and 2002.…

During Jordan’s second season, he was plagued with many injuries but returned in the 1986-1987 season to be the only player besides Wilt Chamberlin to score more than 3,000 points in a single season. Michael led the Bulls to the Eastern Conference Finals in 1990 but did not win their first NBA championship until the following year by defeating the Los Angeles Lakers. Jordan’s name was becoming well known for his agility and power on the court while his leadership abilities impacted the Bulls off the court. In 1992, the Bulls defeated the Portland Trail Blazers to win their second NBA title and won their third championship the next year. After the 1992-1993 season, Jordan’s father, James, was brutally murdered in Wilmington, North Carolina. Jordan shocked the world and decided to retire from the game of basketball to pursue baseball just like his father wanted him too. He would only play one year for a minor league team, the Birmingham Barons as an…

Following Michael Jordans footsteps again, Rose became the first NBA all-star on the Bulls since Jordan was named an all-star in 1998. Rose’s third season could be considered his most successful, one of his best games was on January 17 2011. I remember sitting upstairs at my house, wearing my cobalt blue Adidas DRose 2.5s, watching the Bulls play the Grizzlies. The whole game Derrick seemed to be controlling the court, he flew up and down the light colored hardwood finding many creative ways to put the little orange ball in the little orange hoop. Derrick finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists, recording his first triple double. I was amazed by his performance and began to watch as many Bull’s games as I could, just to see him play. After more great performances Rose lead his Bulls team to a 62-20 record and Derrick won the NBA’s most valuable player award. At age 22 Derrick Rose was the youngest person to ever be named the MVP of the league, breaking a 47 year old record. When he won the MVP he inspired me by the way he overcame a hard situation to become one of the greatest athletes in the NBA and he also made me believe that if I worked hard like he did I could accomplish my…

During his time playing basketball Jordan had many endorsements none bigger than his Nike deal which changed the landscape of how endorsements worked in the NBA. “Jordan took the court his rookie year in 1984 in a pair of red and black Air Jordan’s, which matched the Bulls’ uniforms, but did not feature any white per NBA protocol. The league banned the shoes and fined Michael $5,000 every game for wearing them. Nike covered the fines and capitalized on the attention” (Badenhausen). Jordan continued to wear the Nike air Jordan shoes, then eventually get rid of the protocol and players were allowed to wear any shoe the player show fit. Air Jordan franchise yielded more than 100 million dollars in March 1985. According to SportsOnesource a retail tracking firm “In 2012, the Jordan brand sold $2.5 billion worth of shoes at retail. . . Air Jordan’s made up 58 percent of all basketball shoes bought in the U.S. and 77 percent of all kids ' basketball shoe”…

The Black Mamba is one of the deadliest, fastest, and most feared snake in the World today. That was the description of 6’7ft 210lb Kobe Bryant on the court since he joined the league right out of high school. His nickname tells it all and no man in today’s culture has been more polarizing: He is either loved or hated but all have an opinion: whether good or bad nobody can deny knowing his name and what he does. He has competed for more Championships than anyone still playing in the league and is known as the best finisher in the league. He takes pride in his craft and has produced even when wounded. Just like the most deadly snake, Kobe Bryant, aka “The Black Mamba” is the most feared player on the court. There is only one man in sports today that can lay claim to all of this and his name is none other than Kobe Bryant.…

“The Book of Basketball: The NBA According to the Sports Guy” by Bill Simmons, was a book only the Sports Guy could write. Save a few hundred pages for Simmons to inform the readers on how he became the basketball and Celtics fan he is today (hint: it was his dad choosing between a motorcycle and season tickets to the Celtics), why as a child he called himself Jabaal Abdul-Simmons, footnotes galore, his hatred for Isiah Thomas and Wilt Chamberlain, and many of the greatest “What-if’s” in basketball history. Other than that, Bill Simmons uses this behemoth of a book to indulge on his version of “The Secret” of basketball, winning championships, and gives his take on how the NBA Hall of Fame should be constructed. In a pyramid style ranking with five levels Bill Simmons has who he thinks should be where, as of 2009, and each level getting smaller and smaller due to the higher standard. It all ends with the 12 best of all time, sitting atop the pyramid like kings with Michael Jordan number one. Again there was no one other than Simmons to write this book. “You could dress me red, drop in into a Crips neighborhood, tell me that I have 12 minutes to start a high-caliber NBA conversation before somebody puts a cap in my ass...and I would…

The NBA has been known for being an enormous source of entertainment throughout the world. It provides the world with the excitement of professional basketball games throughout the United States and even in foreign countries. The NBA is famous for signing the greatest basketball players who graduate from college or come straight out of high school. Fortunately, the NBA has changed its policy as of June 26th 2005 by enforcing a new age limit rule, which has brought the NBA into the limelight. The new age limit rule will prohibit players from being able to jump directly into the NBA draft, straight out of high school. The news spread rapidly across the United States, bringing about the controversy as to why high school graduates cannot jump directly into professional sports. The NBA's decision to impose the age limit rule will only benefit young high school graduates in the near future. The new age limit rule will allow high school athletes to prepare themselves before they attempt to take part in professional sports. It has become apparent over the past few years that high…

You know what really tears my ACL? Bandwagons fans. If you don’t know what a bandwagon fan is, they’re anyone who claims they are a "fan" of a particular sports team, even though they had no prior support for/interest in the team until that team started winning. These types of fans only show playoff interest, have probably never watched a regular season game, don't own any type of team merchandise, nor would they buy any. For example, a lot of people were bandwagon fans during the years of 2010 to 2013 when LeBron James and Chris Bosh joined the Miami Heat basketball association. People only liked them when they were good. Now that LeBron has joined the Cleveland Cavaliers, all of those bandwagon fans and many more have now just happened to like that team, even though they were a very bad team the past few years. This doesn’t only apply for just basketball, but for all sports. You have your Green Bay Packers bandwagon fans, your Los Angeles Angels bandwagon fans, even your Rory McIlroy bandwagon fans.…

On the other hand, NBA players already have their career making 250,000 dollars to an astounding 25 million dollars depending on the individual franchise and the talent of the player. Did they sell their souls upon entering the NBA draft? Professional players completely changed how they played their game in between college and the big leagues. The whole dynamic of the game shifts between the levels of competition, but its not necessarily for the better.…
