Kimberly-Clark Corp. is using information technology to enhance their business. A recent innovation of virtual reality products has moved the company that was traditionally tasked with the creation of consumer goods into a new area of business (O’Brien, J. & Marakas, G. 2011). The company has taken a step towards the future using virtual reality to develop new ways to market and sell products to consumers. These products include those produced outside of their company, giving them new channels of communication and business dealings with other organizations. Kimberly Clark Corp. has developed a high tech studio contained within a basement of a facility in Appleton, Wisconsin to house the virtual reality system. It is important that organizations take measures to stay up to date on the latest technology in order to stay relevant. Organizations that do not take these steps can quickly find themselves left in the past. In general society of today is very different from a few decades ago. As technology has progressed so has its end users. People are constantly on the go and looking for ways to complete tasks faster. This desire not only translates to the personal lives of consumers but the operations of businesses. The proposed use of the product discussed in the Kimberly Clark Corp. case was to discover consumers behaviors, privately collect computerized data, and enhance consumers shopping experiences based on that knowledge. However, the development of such technology opens the door for other industries to improve their operations, provide services, and streamline processes through its use. Virtual reality gives the allusion of being in a location, touching an object, or experiencing an event. In fields where customization is important, this can be an extremely helpful tool. Any company that would like to allow customers to view custom items before production would benefit from virtual reality enhancements (Kugler, 2017). Homebuilders, interior designers, and jewelry designers all have the potential to reap benefits if virtual reality applications are used in their fields. The power to design a home and give a client a virtual walk through without ever starting the actual project is paramount. People can make changes, as they often do, on the front end of a project instead of later in the project which can be extremely costly. Interior designers can offer clients the opportunity to see the finished products, customize colors, furniture placement with the use of virtual reality. When clients request changes an simple input can quickly allow the client to see the change occur instead of waiting for a new design
