SOCIAL AND POLITICAL REFELCTIONS
ITALY AND THE GRAND TOUR
Travel to Italy in the eighteenth century was most likely for benefit and pleasure, but the attraction for the British people got worse because of Italy’s connection with Jacobitism. After this tourist had almost nothing good to say about the government and the Italian states. British tourist didn't see any modern townscape in Italy to match London, mostly they preferred modern architecture before old/classical. Even when they went out on the countryside they weren’t impressed, it can be because of the Agricultural revolution in Britain.
In the nineteenth century Italy became more popular, because revolution no longer seemed a serious prospect in Britain and famous writers started to write and support the “Risorgimento”. But the enthusiasm didn't last long and the British went back to be not that interested in the modern Italy.
