Sure taking away a schools right to receive financial aid is a great deterrent, but that doesn’t help the student that has been harmed by the release of their information. The best way to explain the reason why a student can’t sue is to explain the case of “Gonzaga University v. Doe, 536 U.S” June 20, 2002. The United States Supreme Court stated in this case that the university can be put in a position of not reporting a non-moral situation, possibly allowing crimes to be unreported if they feel they may be sued over the reporting of a sex crime. The courts stated that the FERPA law does not create students’ rights that are enforceable. The courts state that the FERPA law only speaks to the Secretary of Education, and only covers university…

Carolina High School, located in Greenville County, was established in 1956 as a 9th through 12th grade public high school. In 1995, the school was chosen to be a magnet school where at its peak had a student enrollment of over 1300. When the needs of the community changed and local mills closed, the dynamics of the community changed, dropping enrollment down by several hundred students. By 2000, the average family income was just above $22,000, where a little over 9% of the families were reported by the 2000 Census as earning less than $15,000 per year. Due to the changes in the surroundings of the school, the school suffered from great challenges. In a location stricken by poverty, the enrollment in 2008 was a little over 700 students with over 80% of the population being minority and served by the free and reduced lunch…

Yet OUSD continues to face significant challenges, and consistently trails the State of California and surrounding counties in academic proficiency as measured by the Academic Performance Index. In 2014, for example, 56% of students in the state were proficient in English while 43% were proficient in OUSD. There are also disparities upon…

As a student of Georgia Gwinnett College, I want to share my views on the issue of limiting access to certain websites. I understand that Georgia Gwinnett College would like to block all access to all social media websites (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Tumblr, etc.) This has been the subject of much debate between the students with the faculty at GGC. I get the idea that some of the websites are inappropriate for use through the campus-wide wireless network. Faculty should get the chance to look at the site, not just look at the URL. I have learned that there are going to be sites out there that will be educational and schools have blocked them. Most of the college students in our generation learn through technology. Many students use social media to enhance their learning, expand the reach of the classroom, find things we know, and fashion our own personal learning network.…
