In summary, if we keep our student’s education about the kids and not about the adults we will produced more prepared individuals who will have a bright future. If we have better teachers who love what they do and really want to make a difference in the lives of students, we will have students who are prepared and excited about college. Teachers unions need a change in the way they think about the union, and make it more about children's education. We need unions to care more about what can kind of teachers are in the schools, and get rid of the teachers who are not good for the…
The “under-appreciated” teacher epidemic of North Carolina needs to be completely terminated. NC Legislators, educators constantly mold and shape the keys to the America’s future for 8 hours a day and 5 days a week. Their dedication, professionalism, and commitment must be recognized in the most prominent way. The loans and scholarships programs will be like that of a gift of gratitude for students, who despite all the problems such as of under-pay, will be rewarded and acknowledged for their compassion to commit to a flaw-filled career. Though education has its lengthy list of issues, it takes a true warrior at heart to fight the battles it come…
The American Federation of Teachers was founded in 1916 by eight local teachers. However, the American Federation of Teachers had lost majority of their members by 1920. The union fought hard for tenure laws for long standing teachers as well as teachers who were being sought after for having differing views and beliefs than those in the political arena especially during World War I. Over time, strength in the union’s leadership helped more members to join and saw a climb from less than 5,000 in 1920 to 32,000 in 1939. The union was able to move to collective bargaining in the 1940s. In fact, the first strike for the teacher’s union occurred in November 1946 and lasted for 38 days. Over time, the American Federation of Teachers grew to become the second largest union in the United States (AFT History, 2012).…

At the present time, merit pay continues to be relevant in America. With school district budgets decreasing across the nation, an excess of fiscal difficulties is undoubtedly negatively having a great impact on schools across the nation (Poston, 2011). For this reason, these negative impacts are causing school administrators to be less creative in its ability to attract and retain high-quality teachers. For example, the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) (n.d.) share that Russell Hobby, general secretary of the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT), expressed that head teachers’ recruitment strategies across the country are becoming increasingly difficult to recruit teachers because teachers' salaries are rapidly becoming…

"Nothing helps a child learn as much as a great teacher," said Secretary Spellings (October 8, 2008, press release). "Yet we often find our most experienced and effective teachers in our least challenging settings. Until this trend is reversed, we will not be able to solve our education system 's - and our country 's - biggest challenges. We must do a better job of treating teachers like the professionals they are and rewarding those who take on tougher work and get results." By encouraging effective professional development this encourages teachers to better themselves to better educate our children. This also provides funds for programs that encourage teachers to remain current on educational trends. With these provisions a significant portion of this money is often spent to help teachers better prepare students for standardized testing. NCLB receives grants for excellence in teaching. This money is provided to reward successful teachers and principals. The downside is that the success of teachers and principals is often measured through the same flawed instrument of students ' test scores on the standardized tests. In 2006 President Bush created the Teacher Incentive Fund, which supports districts in rewarding teachers and principals who have increased student achievement and helps to recruit and retain high quality teachers and principals in the neediest…

The United States is going through a crisis, teacher shortage is increasing year by year. In some states, the shortage is so high legislators have lowered the requirements to become a teacher. Having fewer qualified educators will affect the children since they are not receiving the education they deserve. This will also affect society as there would not be productive citizens to continue the future of America. One of the biggest reason shortages are happening is the low wage educators receive. When comparing how much money a doctor or lawyer make compared to teachers, most people chose higher paying jobs.…
At present, charter schools have become active in campaigning for the creation of less expensive and not so secure teaching staff, and teachers in these institutions are also not as unionized or experienced as the ones in public schools. They are also less likely to possess any state certification, which means these teachers are paid at a lower rate. Several charter school teachers also resign every year, and this doubles the turnover rate due to unsatisfactory working conditions.…
On the topic of education, teachers and the thought of joining a union often leaves some thinking and not sure what to do. The practices of the teachers unions have their ups and downs like everything we do. There are a lot of benefits to the union and there are also a lot of downfalls. My family consists of a majority of educators and as with everything in the world we discuss with one another our decisions and weigh them as we go. Is the union doing its job? Is it worth joining this day in age? What could the union do for me and what benefits will be available? In my paper, we will look at some of the interesting aspects of the union, and weigh the benefits and downfalls of being in or out of the union.…
