Case Study: The Bid Development Association
1. I have worked on many important projects throughout my career. Developing the bid for the women’s Canadian Curling Championship the “Scotties Tournament of Hearts was one that comes to mind.
The Bid Development Committee wanted to present a bid that showed the city of Kingston’s facilities and infrastructure exceed the minimum requirements to host the event. The committee also felt it was important to show that the bid has support from local and provincial sports organizations, government agencies (local, regional, provincial, and federal), corporate sector, media, and local tourism organizations.
The Bid Committee consisted of representatives from the local stakeholders which included; City of Kingston, K-Rock Centre, the local curling

The K-Rock Centre would be responsible for facility preparations, staffing, and ticketing. Local curling clubs would be responsible for recruiting volunteers. The provincial curling association would support the local curling club with volunteer recruitment and provincial monetary support. The national curling association would be responsible for running the event and providing support to the local event organizing committee where needed. Local business would be responsible to help with sponsorship support and making sure they are prepared for the influx of people in the city. For example, restaurants would need to make sure they have enough staff during the event. Media would be responsible for supporting the promotion of the event and sponsorship support. Kingston Accommodation Partners would be responsible for making sure the hotels are prepared for hosting visitors coming to the city including; participants, event staff, dignitaries, and spectators. Tourism Kingston would be responsible for developing the Organizing Committee, promoting the event outside of Kingston, applying for federal grant money and chairing the organizing …show more content…
If a project is being managed across different time zones communication plans and meeting schedules need to take into consideration how to deal with the time differences. If not taken into consideration it may lead to key team members not attending meetings or not know who to call when time-sensitive issues arise. For instance, a Skype meeting planned for 4 PM in one country but its 2 AM in another country or a time-sensitive issue arises and you need an answer right away but the person you need to speak with is in a different country and its 1 AM and won’t answer the phone or email. These situations can arise and if not planned for and have negative effects on your project's success. If these issues are addressed during the planning stage you will increase the chances of a successful project. Instead of a 4 PM meeting its agreed that meeting will take place at 7 AM which is 5 PM for team members across the
