Case Study- Turnaround at IBM
1. Work with another student to answer the following questions. What strategy changes did Gerstner use to solve IBM’s situation? Develop your answer by selecting specific strategies relating to corporate, business, and functional strategy options.
In my opinion Gerstner used 2 strategies. The growth strategy and the diversification strategy.
To meet the needs of customers, Gerstner adopted the open systems so that standard software protocols would allow different hardware and software products to talk to each other. Customers wanted solutions. Seeing the future was heading towards the internet. Gerstner formed an internet division. A support group, if you will. The new strategy relied less on hardware and more on technology services and software.

I feel this section of the Ibm social computing guidelines motivates employees to create thoughtful content by giving examples of material to share, wether it be about your family, hobbies, ect. Make a connection to your readers. Also do to shine positive light on the company, yourself and other employees
3. Employees’ use of social networking can cause problems for businesses. Security issues arise when employees communicate, unregulated, with people outside the organization. Reputation management is a challenge when employees post inappropriate comments on blogs, Twitter, and other sites. Work with another student(s) to develop a list of social media “Do’s and Don’ts for employees developing content.
