Case Study: Wake Forest
Wake Forest has all of the “checklist qualities” I am looking for—a small college with major academic and research prowess. With the benefits of an intimate campus and all the opportunities of a larger school, Wake landed on my list with numerous comparable colleges. Such vested interest and investment in each other is something I found

Sometimes a stern warning is just what you need in order to push you to take a step back and evaluate your next move, especially when it could be a life changing one. In “Alumnus Welcomes New UC Berkeley Students with Stern Warning,” Shouak Bagchi, an alumnus of UC Berkeley, addresses the Berkeley freshmen class of 2017 with appraisal and advice for the future. Bagchi writes to the new students about what attending one of the most prestigious public universities entails. With Wake Forest’s resources, I can envision myself becoming an entrepreneur who shocks the market with a company that promotes social change and generates profit. College should provide a safety net for students who have big ambitions. Wake Forest can provide me with the safety net and assure that no matter how outrageously crazy my ventures and ideas can be, I won’t fail because Wake Forest will help me get back up and encourage me to keep failing until I succeed. Anyone can say that he or she wants to attend Wake Forest for its name, ranking, and academic rigor, but not many know early on how he or she can bring value to the Winston Salem, and global community. Working with bright students and faculty members will help me in creating a difference that I’ve dreamt of since my freshman year in high school. Being a Demon Decan wouldn’t be a three year commitment, rather it would be a lifelong commitment and the way I live as a Demon Decan would become a lifestyle throughout my…

Being a community, network, and family details my view of the “Hokie Spirit.” At Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (VT), I am certain that there is overwhelming support from professors and students because of the unique atmosphere I perceived when touring. While walking around the brick buildings, I felt as if all students knew each other, or that each of them had something in common. This aspect that every person who strode pass me entailed, was pride or “Hokie Spirit.” I could sense the fulfillment each individual had for attending one of the top public schools in the United States, and because of this, “Hokie Spirit” flourishes throughout the campus.…

“Teely, because I’m so interested in seeing you apply with your Eagle Vision Application…” Central University. “An exclusive invitation from UNCP..” UNC Pembroke. “Mai-Teelee, you’ll want to read this.” Western Carolina. All these colleges and universities showed interest in me by reaching out through emails and letters in the mail but, it wasn’t them whom I was interested in. It was you, UNC Chapel Hill. The first time I heard about you was back in my sophomore year, in AP Environmental Science by a group of classmates who had visited the campus. At that time, I didn’t care that much for colleges. I was still worried about joining clubs and trying to make more friends and just, have fun. Like any other teenager. However, I became intrigued. Just what was it that made this school so well known and liked? Once I decided that I would aim for the medical field, my friends suggested, of course, Chapel Hill. You. They said “It’s a great medical school and you’ll get in easily because you’re Asian.” And being naive, I believed them. I didn’t quite realize just how high your expectations were. But it wouldn’t be too difficult I assumed…
