English College Research Paper The two colleges I am considering attending are West Virginia University (WVU) and Fairmont State University (FSU). These colleges are at the top of my list because members of my family have attended both these schools and I have family that lives in that area of West Virginia. I like both Fairmont State and West Virginia. They both have the things that I am looking for in a college, but of the two, I am leaning to West Virginia University. I am leaning to picking WVU because they have the special type of engineering I want to pursue and Fairmont State does not. The special type of engineering I am interested in pursuing is
I chose Fairmont State because my Grandma lives in Fairmont. So, I could live with her and drive to the school which is only ten minutes away. Fairmont State University is a public institution that has a total undergraduate enrollment of 4,112, its setting is urban, and the campus size is 120 acres (“Fairmont State University”). It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar. The in-state tuition and fees are $5,824; out-of-state tuition and fees are $12,288. Fairmont State University offers a wide variety of graduate, bachelors, and associate degrees. Fairmont State has programs in business, education, teaching, architecture, and criminal justice in addition to 90 baccalaureate courses (“Fairmont State University”). The mission of FSU is to provide opportunities for individuals to achieve their professional and personal goals and discover roles for responsible citizenship that promote the common good. With a 120-acre main campus in Fairmont, West Virginia, FSU is part of the state’s growing high technology corridor, including a metro area of about 50,000 residents (“Fairmont State University”). The FSU main campus is within a short drive of larger cities such as Pittsburgh, and has many opportunities for outdoor recreation in West Virginia. FSU serves a 13-county region with facilities. Fairmont State is a very nice campus and one of its advantages is the tuition price. For one year at Fairmont State you pay, $12,288 and for one year at West Virginia it is $19,632. So, as you can tell, West Virginia is a whole lot more expensive than Fairmont State. Another plus to Fairmont State is that my Grandma has a house that is ten minutes away. That is nice because staying at her house will significantly lower the price of living. One thing I also like is the town of Fairmont; it is similar to Morgantown, a nice city with country all around. That is good since I am an outdoors person and both places have that option. Something else that I considered is that my mother went to Fairmont State. She went there and got an undergraduate degree in accounting and economics. She was involved in many college activities such as, cross country running and was a freshman counselor; she also was a founding member of the Student Accounting Society at the college. She had a very good experience there and she was offered a job from one of her professor’s right out of college. So, not only did Fairmont State prepare her for a career in accounting, she was also offered a job right out of college (Henderson Denise).
