The judge announced that Leopold and Loeb would have 99 years in prison for kidnapping, and the rest of their natural lives for murder. In the Casey Anthony case, the whole world knew that Casey murdered her daughter, but through long days in the court she got out innocent. This is the opposite of what happened to Leopold and Loeb. If the murder were to have gone cleanly without mistakes, their case may have ended like the Casey Anthony case. Because Leopold dropped his glasses in the culvert it left strong evidence that they were the killers. Loeb's obsession for crime relates the Daniel Petric case, in 2010 Daniel’s parents took his favorite video game (Halo 3) away from him. This resulted in Daniel shooting his father in the head, and killing his mother. The reason of this killing must have been caused by his obsession with the shooting game, just like Loebs obsession with crime, and Leopolds obsession with Loeb. Loeb got so inspired by the books he had read about crime, that he needed to start himself. Murder was the most necessary element for Leopold and Loeb’s ‘perfect crime’. The fact that they wanted to commit crime just for the thrill of it, relates to the fictional character Tom Sawyer. Tom was stuck in a constant thought that crime was obligatory to enjoy life. Just as the real like Loeb and Leopold, he planned detailed crimes to achieve perfect crime. The plan to kidnap the son of wealthy parents, then to collect the ransom after it was thrown off a moving train was an idea that you would read in books.
