Set in 1931 Harlem, New, York, the inspirational tale tells the story of eight-year old Cassie Louise Lightfoot, who dreams of being able to fly and be free to set off to wherever she pleases. One night while up on the roof of her Harlem home with her family, she gets her wish when she suddenly starts soaring among the stars above the city. While on her ‘journey’ she laid claim to all the buildings in the city, including the union building where her father got denied entry because of his race. Originally a story quilt, this tale merges various storytelling and art forms such as autobiography, fictional narrative, painting, and quilt making. This is evident seeing that certain elements of the story act as alterations of the author’s own childhood…

They would think me insane and possibly give me some nasty looks, as well as cross the street when I walk past. But since you have to read this essay, I think it’s fair that I make my point. Cathy is a real go-getter, she does what she has to to make ends meet. She isn’t easily swayed, and has a strong moral foundation, whether or not it’s a good one is a moot point. Lastly, she’s not easily discouraged. Even in the face of direct adversity, she brushes herself off and keeps on trucking.…

Night is a work by Elie Wiesel about his experience with his father in the Nazi Germany concentration camps at Auschwitz and Buchenwald in 1944–1945 (Night book.). Elie became motivated to write this novel because he felt he was obligated to share the gruesome experiences felt by Jews during that time period. Many scholars agree that “Elie Wiesel wrote the book "Night" as a memoir of his experiences as a Jew during the Holocaust. He calls himself a "messenger of the dead among the living" through his literary witness” (Why did Elie Wiesel write the book night?). This proves that he felt responsible to address this experience and make certain that the genocide that stripped him of his identity and childhood…
