How to prepare to go off to College
Introduction
Getting prepared to go off to college can be very costly and stressful. There are several things you need to consider before packing and leaving for college. Preparing to leave for college can take up to two or more years if you’re preparing yourself during your high school years. Once you narrow your results to the college you are going to you will then need to prepare yourself for the big transition.
Tools and Supplies
You will need several different items when you prepare yourself for college. 1. Computer 2. Paper 3. Pencil/Pen 4. Notebook Paper 5. Folder to keep all college literature on colleges planning to attend. 6. Transcripts from high school
When attending college the FAFSA form is a requirement needed when applying for college. This form is based on what income your parents are receiving.
FAFSA
1. Log onto the website and fill out all the information that is required. You will create a pin to login with. 2. Must have your parents W-2’s from the previous year to complete the application process. 3. You will need to contact the college you are planning to attend, to get the identification number needed to process the application
Federal Grants
There are a lot of different grants that are available they are simply based off of your needs and academic excellence. 1. Call the college of your choice and see what types of grants are offered. 2. Pell grants are grants that offer thousands of dollars for free to help with the cost of tuition.
Choosing the right loan 1. If funds are short, you will find out a loan is required to pay for your tuition. 2. Compare companies and their loans, the interest rate, and the time-length of how long will the loans take to pay back. 3. Loans from a private institution for example Wells Fargo can tend to be less forgiving and also amounts are typically less. 4.
