Casual Sex Can Be an Addiction
It 's not news to anybody these days, if they watch any television or glance over the covers of the magazines lining the counters at checkout in almost all grocery stores, that we live in a sex-saturated society where apparently the majority of middle to young age people are "doing it,(having sex)" more often than not without "benefit of marriage." Causal sex that is what it is called. Therefore, what is it and can it become an addiction? Perhaps it is best to start with a definition of a sexual activity and romantic relationship. Sexual activity; is where those involved do not define it as romantic or their partner as boyfriend or girlfriend. Romantic relationships may be explain as experience feelings of attraction, infatuation, closeness, or what the individual considers love. Relationship in the sense, in essence is the ongoing or regular contact between an individual and individuals who are experiencing these feelings.
Casual sex in one definition is just sexual activities without a romantic relationship, many people have different definitions of what casual sex might be. Some terms that are used for casual sex from the age groups of teens on up till a least the early 40’s are: No strings attached, F*ck buddy, One-night stands, Chance encounters, Hook-ups, Friends with benefits or one of the popular the Booty call. It is easy to give casual sex lots of different names, but at the end of the day, it is all about doing the same thing. It is about sexual encounters with strangers or agreements that can stretch over a longer periods between people who have sex together with no emotional comments (Schaumburg, 1997, p.68).
