Dear Holden Caulfield,

I have taken the liberty in writing you this letter. I have created a mixed tape of ten songs that I thing you would like. I hope that you can connect with what these songs are talking about and you love this mixed tape.

First we have Demons by Imagine Dragons. I picked this song because, as the title states, your inner demons. “Your eyes, they shine so bright. I wanna save that light. I can’t escape this now, unless you show me how.”

Second I have chosen A World Alone by Lorde. I put this song on this CD because it talks about all the phonies in the world, and I know how much you love your phonies… “Let ‘em talk ‘cause we’re dancing in this world alone, world alone, we’re all alone.”

The third is Hey Brother by Avicii. I put this song on the CD because it’s all about being there for your siblings and having each other backs. “Oh, if the sky comes falling down for you. There’s nothing in this world I wouldn’t do.” Throughout the book “Catcher in the Rye” you show that you would do anything for your siblings. Even with Allie being the golden child, were most people would be jealous of Allie, you encouraged him to do his beat. You were devastated when he died and I truly believe you haven’t gotten over it. “Know that water’s sweet but blood is thicker.”

The fourth is Little Bird by Ed Sheeran. I picked this song for you because it shows you that they are things that you can’t save. You sometimes just need to walk away and let them fix it their selves. “And you make me scream, but then I made you cry when I left that little bird with its broken leg to die.”

The fifth song I picked is Your and Beautiful by Lana Del Rey. I chose this song because it’s all about being vulnerable. “Will you still love me, when I'm no longer young and beautiful? Will you still love me, when I got nothing but my aching soul?” These lyrics display how vulnerable she is. It makes you think what will happen in

The album's first singles are in the second and third slots on the album. "Hip to My Heart" was a solid enough choice for a first single. Although Kimberly oversings just a little at points, the song is still bursting with energy and highly original lyrics ("I like your lips like I like my Coca-Cola / Oh, how it pops and fizzes"), not to mention a delightfully uncluttered banjo-and-mandolin backing. As I mentioned in the intro, "If I Die Young" is just about a total 180° from that song. Here, Kimberly (who wrote the song herself) ponders her own mortality in surprisingly clear-eyed detail that almost perfectly paints all the uncertainties of young-adulthood and how others would feel if she indeed died young. This song has obviously resonated well at radio; it debuted the same week that "Hip to My Heart" fell from the charts, and is already a gold single. Don't be surprised if it ends up a dark horse #1 hit. A bouncy melody drives the sweet "All Your Life," which uses slightly off-center imagery such as sand in one's hands and firefly lamps to illustrate how she doesn't want anything other than "to be…

As a teenage boy that was in a similar position, I can connect with Holden because he got kicked out of boarding school the same way I almost got kicked out of privet school. I went through sort of the same situation as Holden. So it feels like I can connect with Holden on a whole other level. Another thing I can connect with him is he has a teacher tried to turn my life around. But so far what I read it seems like Holden is changing little by little through my perspective.…

J.D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye provides a provocative inquiry into the crude life of a depressed adolescent, Holden Caulfield. Without intensive analysis and study, Holden appears to be a clearly heterosexual, vulgar yet virtuous, typical youth who chastises phoniness and decries adult evils. However, this is a fallacy. The finest manner to judge and analyze Holden is by his statements and actions, which can be irrefutably presented. Holden Caulfield condemns adult corruption and phoniness but consistently misrepresents himself and is a phony as well as a hypocrite.…

Combine all these aspects into one song and you are guaranteed a top spot in the music charts. Every pop song in the 21st century has at least one of the components that were listed, which shows the amount of creativity in the pop genre. Compared to other musical genres, including rock, alternative, and jazz, pop is the most underappreciated and deserves more acknowledgment than the constant features in the media and local radio…

Elizabeth Norton once used a quote that’s states “To be depressed is to be lonely; to have a friend is to be happy.”” Start each day by affirming peaceful, contented and happy attitudes and your days will tend to be pleasant and decided to look beyond the imperfections, so you want feel the need of a friend”. In Catcher in the Rye, Salinger uses Holden to suggest children around the world are depressed and want to gain a relationship with anyone who’s willing to talk to them. During depression people may appear unfriendly to and irritate others, unfortunately in Holden case he was friendly to others because he was so depressed for a relationship and a friend.…

When one first reads The Catcher in the Rye, one might be surprised by the unusual red hunting hat that Holden chooses to wear. It is ironic that Holden criticizes Mr. Spencer for being the kind of old guy that "can get a big bang out of buying a [Navajo] blanket," and yet, just a few chapters later, he admits that he himself gets "a big bang out of that hat." At least on this level, the hat hints that Holden has the same characteristics he criticizes in others.…

I chose Hurt (Johnny Cash), this song is my go to song when everything seem to be going wrong. It always brightens my mood, it shows without darkness we would not have light. My darkness is depression, I have suffered depression for four years now. I believe Johnny Cash suffered with depression while he suffered an addiction to amphetamines. “Cash suffered agonizing guilt and depression” (Coleman). The world witnessed when Johnny Cash hit rock bottom, they were also able to see him pick himself back up. He inspires me to pick my own self back up when I get to my rock bottom.…

I think all of us have favorite songs, and I guess all kinds of songs have differences and similarities. I have many favorite songs, especially romantic songs. The first song is “Say All I Need” and the second song is “Two is Better Than One”. I choose the two songs because the word choice is easily understood and I can enjoy the music. So, do you know about the two songs? And who is the singer? I suppose you know the two songs because they are popular. Then, the singer of the first song is One Republic and the second song is Boys Like Girls. Although, they are romantic and popular song, in my opinion they have more differences than similarities.…

The title of the song I chose is, “Ho Hey!” written by The Lumineers. The Lumineers are an American folk group from California. The bandleader, Wesley Schultz, started off as an artist, drawing whatever he felt, and eventually replaced his talent and became a song artist. Wesley and Jeremiah started off childhood friends and began collaborating. They played gigs around New York. They moved to Denver, Colorado, bringing their talents with them. The very first thing they did was place a Craigslist ad for a cellist to add to their band. This is how they met Neyla Pekarek. They began playing as a trio and from there they went on. This song is about a relationship that the bandleader had with someone new and he is thinking about what it could have been and basically they are meant to be together, referring to her as sweetheart. That is how this song came about.…

My selection comes from her album Feels Like Home, her second album. This album sold over 15 million copies in its first 28 weeks. This album wasn 't just a reboot of her previous style, she has put more of a personal feel in it, rather than just preforming. She also hints to her hopeless love life, much like Sir Thomas Wyatt does in his poem.…
