Academic Stress: A big part of a teens life is their academics. Depending on how well they do will determine the rest of their life, fore example their job. The corse load is stressful and teens often struggle with it (W). This is almost impossible when one does not have parental support.

The only class he is passing is english and ends up getting “the ax”(Salinger 107). This is due to a lack of support from his parents who, instead of keeping him living at home send him off by himself with no sopport.
Romantic problem: Holden’s relationship with Jane causes him the most trouble. When Standlater is on a date with Jane Holden says “How’d she happen to mention me?… I used to play checkers with her all the time… she wouldn't move any of her kings” (31). The reader can infer that Holden is in love with Jane due to the fact that he can remember vivid details of their time together as children. Not having the help from his father he never had the chance to learn how to treat girl or be e gentleman.
Dramatic events: After Allie’a death the entire family becomes distant from one another including Holden’s mother. Holden states that, “My mother gets hysterical” (51) and “she hasn't felt too healthy since my brother Allie died. She’s very nervous” (107). This demonstrates that Mrs. Caulfield is constantly preoccupied and does not show enough love and compassion towards her
