Holden finds it depressing when he sees people with inexpensive suitcases. He elaborates on the suitcases because he notices that people judge each other based on their belongings. He is saying how people judge just by their first impressions. Having a nice and expensive suitcase meant that you were high class. They symbolizes the social status. This may be referred to prejudice based on the things. The suitcase could be a metaphor for someone’s life. Since he makes the connection to the nuns suitcases and his roommate at Elkton. Even though Holden wanted to hide his suitcases so Dick won't feel embarrassed, Dick continues to take them out so he can show them off. Allie died of leukemia in 1946 at the age of eleven. He has red hair and writes with his left hand. Allie also writes poems on his baseball mitt. Holden describes his brother as the most intelligent, sweet, nice, and has a sense of humor. Holden’s reaction was that he broke all the garage windows and injured his hand. This led him be sent to the hospital and not being able to attend his brother’s funeral. Holden is consistently thinking of his brother throughout the novel. Holden does blame himself for Allie’s death. I think that he should not blame himself because Allie died from a natural reason.

If Holden continues with the path he is in he is going to fall into worse habits. Mr. Antolini advices Holden “the mark of the immature man is that he wants to die nobly for a cause, while the mark of a mature man that he wants to live humbly for one.” Holden should also find his passionate. Holden does take in heart to what Mr. Antolini tells him becuase he decides to stay with his family. Mr. Antolini is the only person he trusts. I think he should of.
