Catcher In The Rye Phoebe Analysis

Despite being 6 years younger than Holden Phoebe understands that growing up is a necessary process in the thong we call life. She also notices the lack of Holden’s effort to mature and knows that it will hurt him later in the book. But next to Phoebe her brother Holden is stunted emotional which she thinks that has a huge effect on his maturity problems and his stubbornness the look is not charming but it’s more foolish than anything. Phoebe serves as a guide to Holden in the story when she shouldn’t because Holden is 6 years older than her. Our loyalty to Holden quickly weakens after we hear Phoebe side of the story. We trust her the judgement she makes about her brother since she knows him better than we do . Phoebe composes a picture of
Holden’s childhood the picture is children romping in a field of rye . She challenges the characters Holden view of the world thru the picture. But the picture the romanticized vision of his childhood . After a while Phoebe seems that her brother Holden bitterness towards other people and the world. She also sees that he is very sad and that he is a young man that is insecure and needs love , support . At the end of the story she goes to the museum and demands for her to go with Holden not because she needs him but because he needs her.
