INTROUCTION
CAT", designs, manufactures markets and sells machinery and engines and sells financial products and insurance to customers via a worldwide dealer network. Caterpillar is the world 's largest manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines and industrial gas turbines. With more thanUS$7 billion in assets, traces its origins to the 1925 merger of the Holt Manufacturing Company, the inventor of the crawler tractor, and the C. L. Best Tractor Company, creating a new entity, the California based Caterpillar Tractor Company In 1986, the company re-organized itself as a Delaware corporation under the current name Caterpillar 's headquarters is located in Peoria, Illinois, United States Caterpillar machinery is recognizable by its trademark "Caterpillar Yellow" livery and the "CAT"
The purpose of this report is to The purposes of this report are to figure out the origins of Caterpillar success, identify the consequences a company endures without reducing recordable workplace injury rate to 0.6 and lost-time case rate due to injury to 0.15, discuss strategies or techniques organizations can use to achieve its goals and progress, show the positive consequences a company enjoys with achieving its long term goals for its operations as well as its products, services and solutions. Through secondary research using online search engines and primary research using personal interviews, this thorough report will provide crucial information about motivating employees.
The goals of this report are to (1) learn about Caterpillar, (2) look at some problems Caterpillar faced, (3) Risks Caterpillar will have, (4) see the product strategies and product line (5) Goals achieved. Interviews with Doug oberhelman provide significant information to achieve the report goals. Finally, the report will draw conclusions from the collected information and suggest recommendations based on those conclusions.

The trees had dark trunks with light white colored lichen. Only a small percentage of dark colored moths existed in this population. The few dark colored moths were effortlessly picked out by birds and other visual predators because they were easily seen against the light background of the trees. When the Industrial Revolution started, the smoke from England’s coal plants darkened the trees by covering them with layers of soot, and killing off the lichen, and then exposing the dark trunks. Now the light colored moths stood out and were easily identified by predators. Over time, the dark colored moths which became best suited for the environment, kept reproducing until the new majority of the Peppered Moth population was almost all dark in color. Caterpillar operates in three key areas; machinery, engines and more recently financial products. Mature product markets are an aspect of all product lifecycles once the initial rapid growth stage is complete sales will continue to rise but however at a much slower rate. Problems associated with mature markets include; slower cost recovery, increased risk of competitors capturing market share and the threat of products moving into the decline stages of the product lifecycle.
