Catholic Priest Interview
If there is such a person as a “typical Catholic priest,” it is not Father H Setter. From his struggle of finding his call, to taking on a parent role, and being one of the most renowned names in the cigar world, his life reveals that he is more than just a casual priest. A stocky, six foot five man dressed in black with a Roman collar definitely stands out in a crowd, but what truly sets him apart is his journey to priesthood and his charismatic personality. He truly is an interesting person, which led him to be my subject for this interview. Fr. H has gone through what he calls a “conversion experience.” Starting his career in New York as a conductor, Setter was given a rare opportunity to study with Leonard Bernstein, a famous composer. …show more content…
I thought it was only appropriate to end this interview with his favorite thing in the whole world: cigars. Fr. H. is practically famous for his love of cigars. He bashfully noted that he is one of the most recognized cigar connoisseurs in the world. “I have been in seven magazine stories, twenty plus newspapers, and two TV programs.” Setter does not usually create a big deal about it and keeps to himself. I know what you are thinking: “A priest smoking cigars? That has to be against the Church!” In reality, he proves it is perfectly fine. “I have studied cigars for forty years now, and is fine if enjoyed in moderation,” Setter says. His reason for loving cigars is that they are relaxing. He describes cigars as “having a flavor to it,” and “the way they blend tobacco, it’s like the way chefs use spices.” Cigars are a passion and hobby for Setter, and strongly wishes that one day he can educate others about the true meaning behind cigars. By the end of this interview, I learned more about my pastor than most people would have known. His story is not like most people’s; and he has definitely had a rollercoaster ride throughout his life. From going through a conversion experience, to raising a child’s life, and doing many extraordinary things, Fr. H truly is an inspirational figure in the

He is the leader here on earth that God had assigned us to be under in ministry. This is a man who is a Leader, Teacher, Father, Husband, Counselor, arbitrator and the list can go continue for pages. He loves God, his family and this church. He has sacrificed time with his wife, kids, holidays, vacations, sports events, first steps not because it is his job but because it is his lifelong ministry. This is a labor of love. I ask you today to think about him and his service and if you, me all of us are making his way easier by holding up his arms in the spiritual sense. For those of you who have participated and given your all in making this vision happen for the man of God, I remind you of I Kings 17 of the woman who blessed the man of God, her flour was never exhausted, and her oil was never…

Before reading these few pages by Sister Mary, and even before this class, I did not have a good idea of who Pope Benedict XVI was. All I knew was that he was a very intellectual and gentle man from Germany who people loved to listen to. There have been many controversies surrounding Pope Benedict, but people continue to listen to his insightful religious lectures. Now after reading this brief insight by Sister Mary, I have developed a newfound appreciation for this man because of the hardships he experienced early in his life. To overcome these adversities, Pope Benedict relied on his love and friendship with Jesus, the Beloved. He sets a great example for us Christians. I think that all of us have to take the time to learn more about him so we can all develop the appreciation for him like I did. His humbleness and loving character is something that all Christians should take note of.…
