Cats Are Friends, Too! "A dog is man's best friend." That common saying may contain some truth, but dogs are not the only animal friend whose companionship people enjoy. For many people, a cat is their best friend. Despite what dog lovers may believe, cats make excellent house pets because they are good companions, civilized members of the household, and easy to own. People enjoy the companionship of cats. First, many cats are affectionate. They will snuggle up and ask to be petted, or scratched under the chin. Who can resist a purring cat? Also, if they're not feeling affectionate, cats are generally quite playful. For example, they love to chase balls and feathers, or just about anything dangling from a string. They especially enjoy playing when their owners are participating in the game. Finally, contrary to popular opinion, cats can be trained. Using rewards and punishments, just like with a dog, a cat can be trained to avoid unwanted behavior or perform tricks. Cats will even fetch! People all over the world enjoy the company of cats. Cats are civilized members of the household. To begin, unlike dogs, cats do not bark or make other loud noises. Most cats don't even meow very often. They generally lead a quiet existence. Cats also don't often have "accidents." Mother cats train their kittens to use the litter box, and most cats will use it without fail from that time on. Even stray cats usually understand the concept when shown the box and will use it regularly. Lastly, although cats have claws, owners can make provision for this. A tall scratching post in a favorite area of the house will often keep the cat content to leave the furniture alone. As a last resort, of course, cats can be declawed. As you can see, cats can be very polite and proper members of the family. One of the most attractive features of cats as house pets is that they are so easy to care for. One reason is cats do not have to be walked. They get plenty of exercise in the house as they play, and they do their business in the litter box. Cleaning a litter box is quick and painless. Another reason is cats take care of their own grooming. Bathing a cat is almost never necessary because under ordinary circumstances cats clean themselves. Cats are more particular about personal cleanliness than people are. The final reason is cats can be left home alone for a few hours without fear. Unlike some pets, most cats will not destroy furniture when left alone. They are content to go about their usual activities until their owners return. To conclude, the number one reason to own a cat is that they are easy to have around the house or apartment. In conclusion, cats are low maintenance, civilized companions. People who have small living quarters or less time for pet care appreciate these characteristics of cats. Also, cats are easy! They take are of themselves and they respect household furnishings. In many ways, cats are the ideal house pet. As the proud owner of a cat, I suggest that you purchase one or adopt one in the near future.

There's a reason cats aren't called man's best friend – and it's all in their genes, according to a new study. Cats are simply not as domesticated as dogs despite sharing households with humans for at least 9,000 years, researchers at the Washington University School of Medicine have found. The reason is because they have been able to retain their hunting skills and ability to see well during the night-time. Cats were first domesticated in the Near East about 10,000 years ago. The modern domestic cat is descended from a wild ancestor called Felis silvestris lybica. All 600 million house cats in the world have been traced back to five females of this species. They lived in the forests before they moved into villages. Ancient Egyptians worshipped…

Like dog owners, some cat owners have trained their pets to sit down, roll over and jump through hoops. Cats learn the tricks by observation and imitation, egged on with positive reinforcement. But training cats is harder than dogs. Does that mean they are less intelligent? Not necessarily. Cat experts say felines are just different. They are solitary animals, motivated by the need to survive. This has allowed them to adapt to a variety of domestic environments for at least 9,500 years - even the hoods of…

They can be loving and caring but most of the time they want to be on their own. That doesn't mean that they don't care or love you. Even though a cat may show less affection than a dog, a cat loves you as much as a dog does. Cats are just as cute and adorable as a dog or just any other animal. Just like dogs, cats love to be with their owner and believe it or not they also enjoy a nice belly rub. One thing that some people do not know about cats is that when a cat is purring at you or walking around you, it is thanking you for being in their life. A dog may not be able to purr to tell you thank you, but they also love you for…

Another difference is space. Cats don’t take up nearly as much space as dogs. They also don’t need a yard to run around in, and they are pretty self sufficient. You can find plenty of cat climbing trees at your local pet store to keep your cat amused. Dogs on the other hand make a lot of noise barking, and enjoy running around in an open space playing fetch.…

    Why Cats Are Bad Pets

    • 750 Words

Cats are a bit messy. They like to sleep everywhere, and leave their hair of the couch cushions, curtains, comforter, and your clothes. They walk on your ledges, and if you have picture frames, candles, or any type of décor, they will knock it over. It’s just a given, you’ll come home to your things on the floor. It seems like every time you’re walking, or in the kitchen, they are right there by your feet, weaving too and fro as you are trying to get from one place to the other. It’s almost like they are trying to kill you. They have no respect for your personal space. If you’re sitting on one end of the couch, taking up only one cushion, they will feel obliged to jump up on your lap and stay there till you have to move. If you do move, and come back, good luck getting back on their good side, because they want nothing to do with you. They have a lot of diva in them. One minute they want every little bit of your attention, and the next they want nothing to do with you and will hiss if…

Feral Cats have become a large problem in Oregon, as well as surfacing across the nation. Feral Cats should be Trapped, Neutered, and Released instead of being Trapped and Killed. The Cats should only be euthanized in the case of irreparable diseases. These cats deserve animal liberation in the sense that they feel pain just as we as humans do, and we as humans possess the moral duty to prevent that pain. With a non-egalitarian view of Biocentric Individualism view on things we can determine the solution to the outbreak of feral cats.…

For my own my research I went online. I found that petting cats can lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels long term which improves cardiovascular function all while releasing endorphins in our bodies. Not only do cats just make us feel good but in a way they help us live longer and healthier. Also, that people with pets tend to be less depressed and lonely. Physical contact with cats leads to the body making oxytocin- a distressing hormone. Cat owners have a reduced chance of dying from a stroke or heart disease. Cats provide an attachment and a purpose for someone who is feeling depressed or even…

Domestic cats make great pets for most homes because they are very easy to care for and generally bond easily with humans. Who would ever in their right mind want a cat as a pet? Cats are the most conniving animals alive and no one should even think to keep them as a pet. There are some people who have a large number of cats in their house at one time and continue adding to the number and that is just ridiculous. Cats can carry around a foul smell or odor and shed their hair which gets everywhere it should not be. There is also a lot of money that can be involved with investing in supplies, health and food for a cat. If anyone has a cat for a pet they should be ready to take full responsibility of the cat and all of the downfalls…
