The Caucasian Chalk Circle In the Caucasian Chalk Circle Bertolt Brecht uses the style of theatre called Epic
Theatre. Epic theatre is the style of theatre in which the main focus isn 't on the actual story but on the action that is going on in the story. The viewer is to understand and capture the pure essence of the story rather than to study and ponder on the drama as a whole. Brecht opposes plays that that will make the viewer become wrapped up in the story. Brecht wants a political theatre that will in turn affect society as a whole. This style of theatre makes for a great theatre performance such as the Caucasian Chalk Circle.
Different scene in the show follow a particular pattern of action a musical break, action then a musical break, this is a interesting way of presenting the story to the audience while still following the guidelines of a Epic Theatre. The storyline of the show touches on many different levels of society such as; social class, the haves and the have nots, power, and authority. these different social issues have been taken directly out of different events that have taken place throughout society. This is another example in how Bertolt Brecht uses the ways of Epic Theatre to bring the audience into the world of Caucasian Chalk Circle. This is what Brecht want the audience to understand, that the spectators should observe the actions that are being presented on the stage.
Epic Theatre also wants to tell a great story while also giving a valuable moral that could be used and applied in the average person’s life. The moral of the story of Caucasian Chalk
Circle is that no matter who gave you life that does not makes that the parent. It is the one who maintains and nourishes your life that is the one that is the parent. The story truly test the strength of true love that someone can have for another human being, even when it’s not even theirs. The main character Grusha
