The Question of the Cause and Effect of the American Spanish War!

The cause of the American Spanish war in 1898 was the finale impact when the USS Maine was destroyed. The Newspaper of American Press (yellow press) stated it was the Spanish whom attacked the United States. This was published by William R. Hearst, and Joseph Pulitzer which also cause a stir amongst the Americans and the Government. The people of America had cheered “Remember the Maine, to hell with Spain!”. Even the presses continue with other articles stating that Spanish General Valeriano was mistreating the Cubans. It was also said it was over exaggerating of the mistreatment to cause another stir and support by the U. S. and the Government. This began a major support by the United States to uphold freedom in Cuba and also free trade amongst the two countries. This was the first war fought where both the North and the South had come together since the Civil War. The biggest support was the move fleets to the East where they attacked a fleet of the Spanish off the coast of Philippines. This was to capture the Navy of Spanish before initial attack and also would seize the trade from the Asian Culture. The effects from this war resulted in capturing territories outside of the continent of United States. United States captured Puerto Rico, Quam, and Philippines. To add they controlled more territory of the ocean which opens up more trade routes secured for America. This is where it showed the Government of America was the first to world power that stretched from Caribbean Sea to in the South China Sea. Even though this great new empire on arise it did not capture Cuba as a Territory. United States and Cuba came to an Agreement called Platt Amendment, which allowed America to come and go but not rule them. This gave Cuba an Independent Government to rule their own.
