Cause Of Adversity
As my body started to tense from the stress, I began to visualize what I should do to play my hardest and achieve my goal, making the better team, the A team for hockey. As I stepped onto the ice, I saw the judges sitting in the stands, staring. I took a deep breath, and started to skate. While going through this adversity, I used two life skills to help me overcome trying to make the A team; insight and independence. One of the causes that made me go through this adversity is that since we had a lot of kids on our team, the coaches wanted everyone to be able to play. Not every kid would be able to play if we were all on one team and if we put everyone together on the same team, some kids also wouldn’t be able to play because they are not that good compared to others. Another cause of my adversity is that there are too many kids for one team. There are 32 kids on our team and most teams either have an A and a B team or two teams. One of the effects of my adversity were that I didn’t make the team because I am a forward, and there are a lot more forward then defense, which is true. And most of the forwards I play with on my team are really good. Another effect was that most of my friends were on the A team and now I only have a couple of good friends on the B team …show more content…
I also used this Life Skill because I asked myself hard questions and gave myself honest answers.
The other Life skill I used was independence because I took control over my problem and tried not to think about it. I also used this Life Skill because I gave it time, and I distanced myself from my issue.
Throughout that whole experience, I learned how to deal with nervousness and stressful situations, and this will really help me with adversity in the future. By looking back on my adversity, I figured out it was a good thing I made the B team, and I have learned a lot from this

Our second game was against the former coach for UNA, Jason Anderson. Coach Anderson was the original coach who offered me a scholarship to UNA. The tension was high, due to familiar faces. We ended up having to play them twice and we beat them both times. After winning all four games we reached the Championship series. Humbolt, from New York, was our biggest obstacle we had to face. The team with the best two out of three wins was to be named the National Champs. The first game we played, we lost to Humbolt. The loss hit us hard and our spirits were down. All season we had not faced a pitcher that shut us down completely. Walking to the locker room after that loss, felt as if we had already became runner up in the Championship series. Beating Humbolt twice the next day, seemed to be an impossible task. We sat in silence as tears ran down our faces. Our coaches let us cry and let us get our emotions out. She knew the pressure we felt and the adversity that was staring us in the face. After 30 minutes of silence, one of the players brought up the games we had to play against UAH. Another player mentioned the victory against Valdosta, and we were instantly reminded that we were capable of anything. We knew that all of the hard work we had put in was not going to waste. We were not going to settle for anything else but a National…

People would say ‘Girls don’t play hockey. Girls don’t skate.’ I would say ‘watch this’. This quote was stated by the first women to play full-time professional hockey in a position other than goalie, Hailey Wickenheiser. This extremely talented female went against all the odds and came out on top. How awesome is that?? If you ask me, a fellow female hockey player, I’d say it’s pretty incredible. I have been playing competitive hockey for the past 14 years of my life. Growing up playing a male dominate sport has impacted my life tremendously and in so many ways has helped form me into the person I am today. Fighting the never ending battle to be accepted and respected in a man’s sport, developing the thoughts and emotions of a man, and the impact it has made on mine and my father’s relationship over the years are only a few areas in my life that hockey has impacted.…

We waited in the gym for about 4 hours, then I got hungry. I walked through the dark hallway to use the vending machine. After I got my honey bun, I walked around to the field house to see if they posted the team. They did, 14 id numbers on one sheet of paper. I looked up and down the list multiple times looking for my id number and unfortunately it wasn’t on there. My heart was broken and I was so confused. I walked home teary-eyed and when I arrived home I cried my eyes out. After that I didn’t play basketball for a whole week, which I had never done. After that week I got back in the gym, and kept playing every day as usual. I went to all of their games because I loved the sport and I wanted to support my friends. After the season ended everything went back to normal, we kept going to the YMCA every day. Now school has ended and summer league starts. Coach put me on Jr. Varsity just too test my skills and the first game, it was the best game of my life. I dunked the ball on a fast break and I couldn’t miss. I was the star player and that showed coach I was better so he put me on varsity. All in all I am just saying never give up and work as hard as you can, it will pay…

As we entered the last week of practice, I wanted relish what I thought would be the last few moments of the season. The varsity head coach was present at the last day of practice, and I was surprised when he pulled me aside during a drill. I held in my excitement and accepted his offer.…

An experience that has significantly transformed me into the person I am today are the beginning years of my cheer “career.” The first three years were the most difficult that i have faced throughout the nine years I have cheered in total. I was not the most athletic, skinniest, or skillful cheerleader there can be. Also since i was new to the cheer world, as all cheerleaders call it, I didn't have as many friends. As time went on I slowly started to get the hang of things and what went on with this new sport. My coaches always punished me in everything I did. I had to prove myself to everyone that I can be just like them and nothing less.…

As a team, everyone worked their hardest to perform to the best of their abilities. Although we had our serious times, the team became the family I had desired. Unlike my birth family, this new family was considerate enough to listen to my problems and thoughts, and give me advice on what I should do with my life. Not only did I create strong bonds with my team members, but I felt my self esteem escalating. I was able to grow as a strong human being and think and speak for myself for the first time in my life. After years of being shunned by my family and bullied by my classmates, I was able to be myself and embrace who I truly am.…
