Causes Of Operation Barbarossa
Operation Barbarossa was the codename for the attack of the Nazis on the USSR. While Germany and the USSR had a non-aggression pact, they both knew it wouldn’t last long. The Germans had launched a large attack across Russia’s borders. They attacked using the Blitzkrieg strategy which consisted of attacking quickly and disorganization among the opponent. The Russians were not quite ready for this sudden attack but that didn’t stop them from fending off the Germans. There were many deaths in the this battle, both Russian and German. After the Germans had retreated because of the cold winter and lack of supplies there were about 775,000 German killed and about 6 million Soviets wounded or captured with about 800,000 killed. The Soviets were better

The failure of Operation Barbarossa was a major turning point in the war because Germany had to fend off two attacking forces, the USSR and the Allied Powers. While this was a victory against Germany a large amount of people had died or been injured on both sides.
