There is not one reason why the civil war started it did not start overnight but developed over a long period of time. There were many reasons why king Charles I started the civil war in 1642.
The first being lack of money. Lack of money was a major factor as Charles I had very little money to his name and repeatedly had to ask parliament for money to help with his campaigns. Parliament was reluctant to give Charles all the funds that he needed, as they knew Charles believe in the divine right of kings. By giving him smaller amounts it kept unable to rule by himself. This quarrel continued until Charles dissolved parliament and ruled for 11 years without them. He had to form parliament again to get taxes to fight the Scott’s. By 1641 Charles was bankrupt so money was definitely a key factor inthe outbreak of the civil war.
Charles personality was also a major factor he was arrogant conceited and believed totally in the Devine right of kings he couldn’t believe that a king could be wrong. He argued continually with parliament over most things but mostly over money and religion he wouldn’t let parliament meet and padlocked the doors of parliament for 11 years he also ruled by using the court of stars chamber so people brought before the court were heavily fined. In a desperate attempt to raise money he brought in the ship money tax which was meant only to be used at times of need, he made everyone in the country pay it not just the people on the shore. This made Charles unpopular with most of England.
Religion influences the break out of the civil war the protestant were not happy that Charles had married a Catholic Queen. Things got worse when the English prayer book was introduced this angered many Scott’s and led to the troubles in which Charles had to pay to stop the Scott’s marching on England which bankrupted Charles, making him return to parliament to ask for more money.
All of these factors led to the start of the civil
