“A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.” –Oliver Wendell Holmes. One day, I was walking around campus with my friend Faith when both of us stumbled upon a sign in the elevator that mentioned a trip to Europe to study our favorite parts of history. From that minute and on both of us knew we had to look into this one of a kind trip. A few days later we attended the course meeting for the trip both of us looked at each other, nodding our heads in excitement. This was when we finally and completely decided this trip would be for us and we would do everything in our power to go. I was hoping this adventure would show me the people, places, and things that I had heard about in books but also more. I…

I have always had a knack for traveling. Since a young age I have found comfort in going to places I have never been. Embracing the culture and questioning why things are done a certain way and exploring the incredible world that I am surrounded by. It brings me peace just being somewhere I have never been. I think it is important to be put in situations that you might not be familiar with and learn how to adapt, how to survive on your own. It’s important to go to unfamiliar places and meet unfamiliar people.…

For several decades, certain man-made structures have been overlooked and unrecognized. Beautiful and amazing masterpieces like Stonehenge, the Eiffel Tower, and the Angkor Wat have been missing a sense of acknowledgement. Humankind’s architectural accomplishments have been given to the ancient wonders of the world. This list was decided about 2,200 years ago. During those centuries, six of the seven wonders have been destroyed or may have never even existed. The Egyptian pyramids are the only survivors from the original list of the ancient wonders.…

I have lived in Soc Trang for 15 years and this is a very special province to me. Someday, if you want to go to somewhere interesting, maybe Soc Trang is one of the best choices for you. This province lies next to the Mekong river with the area is about 3312 km2 and approximately 1,2 million inhabitants. When you go to Soc Trang, you can not help visiting pagodas, especially Bat pagoda. This is a very special pagoda with beautiful Khmer architecture and hundreds of bat in the pagoda backyard. Shoppers can go to Nga Nam floating market or night market to buy good specialities. If pagodas and markets are for the adults, there are also some interesting places for the youth such as My Phuoc ecotourism area, Binh An park or Fresh Water lake. Beside entertaining and shopping, tourists can also enjoy many special kinds of food in Soc Trang. “pia” cake, “bun mam” and “banh cong” are some good suggestions. Moreover, many festivals and exciting activities are held in Soc Trang every year. For example: Ooc-om-boc festival with Ngo boat race, Chon-chnam-thmay with wind lanterns… And if you go to Soc Trang at the beginning of this November, you can jion a very special festival-rice festival-an important and meaningful event to Soc Trang people. Despite of all these, Soc Trang is not always a busy place. The residents here live a peaceful life. They are warm, friendly and always ready to help other people, especialoly tourists. In summary, although Soc Trang is not my real hometown, I still love it very much and in my opinion, it is the best place to live…

    Phnom Penh

I was born in Kampong Cham Province and I have moved to live in Phnom Penh since I finished my high school. When I first came here in Phnom Penh, I felt very surprise and scare. The building and people were far different from my hometown. I got around Phnom Penh by motorbike for a first few days. I saw many high rise buildings; especially the city's French colonial buildings were beautiful. I saw some different kind of transportation that running on the road such as: modern car, Motorbikes, Motorbike-taxis (motodops), Taxis were available at a few locations, Tuk-tuks, and Cyclos. There transportations were in the great amount if compared to my province and it sometimes caused a very serious traffic jam and accidents. I also went to the Royal Palace which no photography was allowed inside the Silver Pagoda and some of the Palace buildings. You were expected to dress decently (no bare legs or shoulders). Beside this, I went to Wat Phnom. I liked the park there. It was a pleasant green space and a popular gathering place for locals. A few monkeys kept quarters there as well and will helped themselves to any drinks you leave unattended. After that I went to Independence and Liberation memorials. Impressive Buddhist-style Independence Memorial, commemorating the departure of the French in 1953, dominated the centre of the city. Nearby was the very ugly Stalin-style Liberation Memorial, marking the Vietnamese capture of the city in 1979. The area was especially popular on weekend nights with locals when the multi-colored fountains were activated and communal music was played. I took several pictures there and got some rest. I also went to Sorya shopping center which located at the south of the Central Market. It's on a North-South Street on the west side. It is currently Phnom Penh's main Western-style mall. It is air-conditioned and contains a range of cheap fast-food outlets as well as a well-stocked supermarket named Lucky Supermarket. You can do…
