Cave Of Speleothems
Another paleoproxy that I have found is speleothems, also known as cave rocks. Unlike glaciers and ice sheets that are exposed to erosion and weathering, speleothems are well preserved in caves. They contain climate data from thousands to millions of years ago and are dated by measuring how much uranium has decayed into thorium for each layer.
For example, one of the world’s largest cave of speleothems is the Carlsbad Cavern in New Mexico, and it provides a record of precipitation for that general location. When water comes through from the ground above and into the cave, minerals are brought along with it, becoming solid mineral deposits such as stalactites, stalagmites, and flowstones. Layers accumulate over time and would show growth
