Cazul Ford Pinto
Cazul Ford Pinto

The results of the experiment show a percent yield of 34.34% for the first trial (Part A), and a percent yield of 84.0% for the second trial (Part B). The methods for both trials were generally the same, so the large difference is attributed to the fact that the beaker broke before the gravity-filtering step in the first trial. The beaker was attempted to be picked up by the beaker tongs, but as the hot solution was being poured into the filter, the beaker slipped out of the beaker tongs and shattered, leaving some of the product unfiltered and thus not accounted for in the final product. Although the methods were generally similar in both steps, the gravity filtration step was skipped over in the second trial, which may have accounted for the missing 16% in trial 2, but may have also accounted for the overall relatively high percent yield for this trial. Luckily, the actual melting point of benzoic acid fit within the recorded average…

The purpose of this experiment was to investigate a competitor’s claim that the food preservative, sodium benzoate (C6H5COONa), made by Fresh Foods International (FFI), changed into a new substance in stomach acid. Stomach acid has a pH between 1 and 3 due to the hydrochloric acid content. Based on the net equation given in the book as well as the solubility of the product our hypothesis is that a new substance will form.…

By the time periods of 200 C.E to 1000 C.E the Mediterranean region went through several political changes and transformations which lead to a cultural transformation also. The majority of the political changes were about invasions and conquering land and it affected culture in a religious way. into one of the twelve statutory exceptions. This act was popular amongst citizens because it gave them a sense of security, they felt as though they were more protected from unjust activity. Ford’s main focus was battling inflation and unemployment. He had originally planned on increasing taxes and cutting government spending, which would stop inflation from increasing. However, his plans changed, in an attempt to lower the unemployment rates, Ford proposed tax cuts and the limitation of government spending. In acts like the Tax Reduction Act of 1975, Ford cut taxes by nearly 23 billion dollars. Even though the tax cut may have been relieving to the citizens, it led to an economic recession. The government spending, tax cuts, and the unemployment…

To study the affect of pH on a food preservative. Sodium benzoate changed into benzoic acid once the 3 M of HCl was added making it a pH of 2, making the solution acidic. The hydronium ion concentration was high enough that it gave a yield of benzoic acid, which, is very insoluble in water and it formed a precipitate in the solution. The end percent yield was 132.352%, this was due to a few flaws in the experiment. During the filtration process of the experiment the funnel was not working properly and not all the…

    1. Diaz describes a delightful family loving and typical in every way. I mean at least for me it seemed like a typical family. “Fiesta” begins with Diaz stating “Mami’s youngest sister…finally made it to the United States that year.” (150) the story started very hopeful and made me feel as if the plot was going to be cheerful, but it was not. I think the overall mood of the story was mostly sad because the kids also knew about the affair. “When children find out about an affair, it’s not just the cheating, but how parents deal with the crisis that can have the most profound effect on their children’s future relationships, says sex and family therapist Dr. Don-David Lusterman.” I believe this fact is what makes the story so very sad.…

As children, we look up to our parents for guidance and knowledge. What they do and how they act can influence our lives in a major way. In Fiesta 1980, Diaz demonstrates the ill effects a terrible father can have on his children through the narration of a young boy named Yunior. Yunior is a Hispanic boy who just immigrated to the United States with his family. The family consists of a mother, father, two sons and a daughter. His refers to his father as Papi and his mother as Mami. He has a younger sister named Madai and an older brother named Rafa. It is tough on the family to pick up and move from their home. Not only do the kids try hard to fit in, but they also struggle with their home life. Their father is portrayed by Diaz as a womanizer, an abuser and a cheater. He is tearing apart his children’s lives by having an affair with another woman. The fact that they know about the affair and cannot tell their mother is killing them. Yunior seems to be affected the most by his father’s behaviors. By the plot and the use of characters, Diaz does a great job showing how children can be traumatized by their parent’s actions.…

The Ford Pinto was a car produced from 1971-1978 that was conceptualized to compete with smaller Japanese imports that were gaining American market share at the time. The goal was to produce a more fuel-efficient vehicle that weighed less than 2,000 pounds that would be sold for less than $1800. Typically, it would take 43 months to design and produce a car. However, the Pinto was rushed to market in 25 months. They failed to test for rear-end impact before placing the vehicles on the consumer market and finally ran the rear impact test after many had already been sold. Not only did the Pinto fail the test, but Ford also learned that the design and placement of the fuel tank made it susceptible to puncture by a bolt in the bumper and…

    Fiesta 1980,

The story, Fiesta, 1980, is one that closely resembles my own childhood. The characters, their actions and experiences each hold similarities to my parents and sisters. For example, my mother was an alcoholic and abusive toward us kids just as Papi was toward his children. In the story, Papi says, “Don’t you mirror me” whereas my mom would say, “Don’t you give me that look”. One previous step dad was like Mami in that he would remain quiet until things got out of control. Only then did he speak up usually with little results before backing down again. The character of Madia reminds me of my little sister who closed her eyes and cupped her ears whenever there was trouble. My little sister, like Madai “was too scared to open her eyes”. My twin reminds me of Rafa who seemed to be the “perfect” one who could do no wrong in my mom’s eyes. For myself, I relate most to Yunior as we both seem to be the ones always getting into trouble and were punished the most. However, when the problems became too bad, Yunior had Tia to lean on for support. For myself, I have two aunts who were always there when I needed them and never pushed for more than I could give.…
